Refueling started to take longer than charging an EV. After battling with several rusty screws removed the filler tube. Bits of a plastic valve thing fell out. I could not see any other issues so put it back together without said valve thing and can now fill the tank properly. No idea what the valve was for but I can live without it.
 
Not sure that’s a good idea. What if it’s some kind of safety device and will it invalidate your insurance?
 
It is not the valve/shutoff that stops the tank emptying if you end up upside down. That is still functioning.
 
Is it to stop the thieving scum siphoning the diesel out, so they just put a screwdriver in the tank instead?
