Hi I have a Freelander TD4 have just changed the diesel filter and diesel pump on the rear arch.the diesel pump is make a loud noise and dose not stop any idea when the pump cuts off or is it tryin to bleed its self any ideas

The pump normally runs for about 30 seconds when the key is turned on before starting and you should hear the pump humming. Pump allows the fuel flow to return to the tank continues.

Ok thanks for that.Problem I have got now is it won't start unless I put easy start.also I have noticed that the earth wire to the diesel filter is broken what dose it earth?

On the dash display does the glow plug show on ignition when cold. Easy start mean you have a problem of fuel feed not sufficient enough or injectors to weak. The glow plugs should be enough to start. So unless you have a weak flow not getting through the fuel lines causing a weak start.

What wold cause a weak flow on the diesel flow
Pinched fuel line blockage near the return pipe to the tank. Air accessing to fuel line causing false pressure. Sensors failed.
You mention earlier you replaced the pump and filter have you made sure all pipes work fitted correctly. Sometime even a new pump can be faulty too.

Freelander starts with easy start and runs fine.when engine gets warm starts fine when engine gets cold won't start.Thats the mystery I have ?

If this were an L Series it could be a fuel pump timing issue - is it possible to have timing issues with the TD4?

is it possible to have timing issues with the TD4?
it's done by the ecu unit .. aided by input from some engine sensors ..
e.g. camshaft sensor for starting .. crankshaft sensor for running ..
the fuel pumps simply provide fuel under pressure to the common rail that feeds the injectors
the ecu does the injection timing ..
( a.f.a.i.k. )
on some common rail diesels the maf sensor also adjusts the timespan that an injector is open
no idea if it does that on the td4/m47r lump
