Still keeping it simple and trying to isolate the issue - and it ‘trying’ to start on a spray of cold start… is the fuel actually getting through to the rail and on to the injectors?
You say the car has sat for over a year, is the fuel even any good? There could be all sorts of cr@p blocking something somewhere. That would be my next hunting ground, after the sensors.
Have you run any diag on it?
I'm getting diesel through the fuel rail and up to the injectors.
Not done a full diagnostics as of yet.
 
… I think a faulty crank sensor would still let it start.
Faulty cam sensor can prevent a start.
