It hasent overheated since i towed my carsvan in april and ive had the sniff test done since then and changed the stat and rad
Its just pressurising now
The system runs at 14psi if I remember correctly so the hoses will feel hard, it's a question of degree.
You sure the viscous fan is OK?

Maybe next time you drain the system , calculate the amount drained so when you refill you will be sure that the exact Quantity has been replenished :)

Mmm i see how hot should it get before the fan starts to engage? Ie..were on the temp guage
At normal temp ie.. A mm or two short of 12.oclock the fan can be stoped with little resistance

That will vary, the easy way is to do the newspaper test. With the engine up to full temperature, take a tightly rolled newspaper and stick it into the fan blades (mind your hands!) if you can slow or stop the fan it's fecked.

Got that fitted but disconected as thats how i got home before when i towed my caravan and she tryed to overheat. but even with the ac fans it was getting close to overheating on the uphills

If you have changed all these parts for new not second hand and your gauges are all working correctly I can only think that you might have blocked internals ie Restricting flow in the water ways somewhere due to lack if water changes and antifreeze ect it has been known.
you could try a flushing agent other than that ???

Everything is now new except the viscous, I would bet that with the cowl removed the aircon fans would keep it within limits if the head is OK.

Ahh didnt know i had to remove the cowl
Ill try that plus a flush and see if that helps

Ive been tinkering today and properly checked the fan and yes it is fecked
Also i think its looseing water!!! Not much but its loosing.
That and the overpressure means only one thing:eek: so i went back to my mate to redo the sniff test, just to conferm. and it passed again! The blue stuff stayed blue!!
Confused is one word for it.

if by losing water you mean the expansion tank level has dropped you might of just got the air lock out ?

Unless you mean there is evidence of a leak elsewhere.

Did you check your heater core and hoses? as well as leaky water pump, thermostat, as well, all water hoses. See if you can tighten any hose clamps

If it's been overheating, it may have been pushing water out via the expansion cap. Also check the water pump is not leaking and the heater O rings.

The temp guage rarly goes over half way so no not overheating but i rarly do more than 10miles at a time so not to say it wouldent overheat given chance just seams to want to overpressure
No sign of water escaping anywere but its lost about 1/4 of a cup over 30miles of city driving so not much but it is loosing

Has it lost any since you topped it up?
