Like a good boy, I was greasing my nipples the other day, when I spotted a drip from the engine area.
After a bit of checking, I discovered diesel leaking out of the throttle spindle on top of the fuel injector.

However, seeing how I struggled with a small clip thing the last time I tried something ( https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/how-do-i-get-this-off.320778/ ), I'm doubting my own ability to do this.
Anyone else tried to stop such a leak? How easy was it?
 
I have done this following the linked guide. It was straight forward enough to do and solved the leak, but even with marking and measuring everything before hand it still needed some fettling to get it set back right. Having replaced all the seals and the bush I refitted everything and found the idle to be very high so had to remove the arms and rotate it a spline (as detailed in the guide). After doing this I then had to adjust the max fuel screw to stop it smoking but with a little time and patience it is straight forward enough to do. And it was a fraction of the cost of what the local pump specialist quoted, but I did buy the kit from them as they had it on the shelf.
 
If its like the CAV pumps you have to remove the governor, you can set these up but it will never be right, pump specialists arnt cheap for a reason. Some things can be fixed with basic tools on the drive by amateur mechanics following instructions, a diesel pump really isn't one of those things.
 
Did mine and was very careful to caliper measure settings etc. Kept everything clean. reassembled, 6 months and still all good. O Ring replaced, and all good.
 
Did mine too (300 tdi with EGR), however there seemed to be some extra gubbins under the top cover which made reassembly very difficult with the pump still installed. Ended up having to remove the pump just to get the top cover back on, that said all ok and leak free after 4 months. As mentioned above measure all the various stop lengths before taking it to bits.

Plus another on the "done that job", it isn't all that complicated, I did mine without any guidance on the actual operation, just an "exploded" view drawing of the VE pump, the parts costs were the real surprising part, new "o" ring for the shaft and a new gasket for the top cover total $5.00 Au. Just work carefully, main thing is to pencil mark the lever splines to ensure they go back where they came from, and take care when replacing the top cover not to trap any of the internal gubbins.
There should be absolutely no need to do any adjustments to the pump after putting it all back together, maybe other than the throttle cable, if the engine was running good before replacing the seal it will continue to run ok when the leak has been fixed.
 
I would definitely replace the bush as well as the o ring seal. Mine was very worn compared to the new one and while it is all apart is not a difficult job to do.
 
Well, I've ordered the kit.

My theory is, if I fail, I'll pay someone to do it properly. If I do it right, then I've saved some money.

Plus I've got no idea where I can take it locally, other than some random garage who may not do it much better than me.
 
Took me a lot of swearing, consternation and two new bushes (as I dented the first) but now all finished off today and seemingly working.
Not been out for a full test drive yet, but so far, no more leaks.

Next is the headlight wiring upgrade kit...

If it is running and idling at the correct revs with no leaks then you have a job weel done. Took me a lot of fettling to get it set up right afterwars.
 
I should add that it took me several weekends of swearing, ruining a bush and a seal, in addition to debating setting the vehicle on fire before I classed it as being done.
At one point in December I forbade any family member to buy me anything Land Rover related for Christmas as I was so incensed with the entire ****ing thing.

On the bright side, we went for a nice Christmas day drive earlier where it almost sounded ok.
