Hello All!
As you can read in my other post today, I suffered a similar and frightening experience as my 2003 Discovery TD5, it took off down the road at speed as I swerved, braked and fortunately didn't kill anyone. This was due to the oil level (augmented with diesel) being right up the dip stick and forced through the breather & turbo. I'm left with trying to determine, for certain, the cause, can you help. I would prefer to avoid spending much more money on investigation because , if the head is cracked the car will have to be scrapped.
I have had the injector O rings and copper seals replaced and to be certain this has been done twice by a good garage, they actually built a special tool to LR specifications to locate the O rings correctly onto the injectors.
They looked for a crack in the head but could not detect one by eye.
The oil level is now going up again, about half an inch after driving 200 miles.
I can see from past blogs that the TD5 motors are known for cracking or being porous and this issue is well known. If the head is faulty I would have to scrap the car so I feel reluctant to spend much more on investigation, your opinions would be welcomed.
Also, does anyone know if LR are informed or concerned that there are people in danger out there due to a known failure of TD5's.
Many thanks ! Hopeddd
