I am sure that the additional levels of technology/sophistication have a combined 'knock on' effect upon the 'reliability' issues, (on all modern vehicles), and this, in turn, adds additional importance of regular scheduled maintenance!
There is a plus side, however, as there are many 'bargains' out there due to owners/garages simply wanting to 'cut their losses' when they are faced with, (what appear to be), overly complex problems when this may not, always, be the case on every occasion - some examples being the Jaguar X Type Auto Transmission issues, (and multiple error messages), and the well documented Range Rover issues!
The addition of LPG adds, (yet another), 'management system' to vehicle electronics - but I was able to purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee for peanuts, (three years ago), because of a fuel leak and the fact that it would not run on LPG.
The fuel leak was due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator which was over pressurising the fuel circuit and the LPG issue was due to an incorrectly programmed management system and the Jeep is still running today, (although I suspect she is a little concerned to note the recent arrival of the P38)!!
