Hi guys. I already had a thread here on the three amigos, on my 2001 Disco 2 td5, so don’t want to go over that again! What I would simply like to know please, is if there is an alternative to either the Nanocom or the Hawkeye diagnostic equipment......both of which are way outside my price range. Something which will read and clear those amigo codes. I was kindly offered the use of a Nanocom, but at a considerable distance from where I am, so rather impractical. And also, if the amigos come back again subsequently, I’m no better off. There are numerous threads on the forum, but I can’t find a definitive answer as to what current alternative diagnostic device, if any, will definitely do what I need for my vehicle?

Any advice please?

Depending where you are in SW France, I have a neighbour with a Nanocom who seems very willing to lend it. Already unlocked for Disco TD5, or, as @sierrafery says a Foxwell will do it, and I speak from experience as mine did my 3 amigos problems.

Hi. Search around for Foxwell NT520/or 530/or 510 Elite for Land Rover which ever you find cheaper, it will do the job for ABS and decent coverage for other systems except the engine management where it's not very reliable but better technical support and updates like other similar tools... https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/diagnostic-tool.367441/#post-5073628
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Yep I've seen the Foxwells elsewhere here....... and you list three......so I still need to know which one of them will work best for the 3 amigo problem ie: the ABS unit?? Or is there nothing to choose between them, other than price??

Thank you. I think you responded before with offer of your neighbour......but it's a long way from me! Which model Foxwell did you have success with?

Mine is an old model now, a "professional 520" I think without going and getting it out of the Landrover.
Have a look on their website.

AFAIK those modells are pretty the same as functionality when it comes to the D2, maybe some differencies with Jags or newer LRs even though they get updates so it's all about price IMO

Hi guys. So as a follow up to my scanner query.....and after providing my VIN to Foxwell to confirm compatibility.... I went ahead and purchased the Foxwell 510E.

It works absolutely fine on my D2, able to identify and clear codes. Need to re-enter vehicle details each time I use it, which is a small pain, but for the money it’s ok!

In terms of my Amigo problem, the diagnostic showed up a shuttle valve issue, which is now sorted and cleared. The remaining problem which won't go away, is a “Rear left sensor electrical failure”. I have replaced both sensors, but the problem still persists. I eyeballed the cable run, but no obvious sign of damage. Could it be a connection into the ECU box I wonder?

Oddly, I drove 5 mins away from the shops the other day, and hadn’t noticed that the Amigos had gone out! No sooner had I realised, then bingly-bong, and the f***ers were back again!

Any suggestions to sort this “sensor electrical failure” greatly appreciated.!

It sounds to me as if the wheel bearing itself needs changing. Replacing the sensors if the bearing is even just the tiniest bit out is a waste of time. The air gap between the reluctor wheel and the sensor will be moving and this will trigger the 3 amigos.
But @sierrafery knows far more about all this so he will come on i expect.
Have you tried swapping the two rear sensor wires at the ECU? If the fault follows the wires then the fault is deffo in the wire/sensor/wheel bearing.

Re the Foxwell, I just click on Land rover - Discovery- dates- type or is it the other way around, never bothered with the actual details of my particular one, although I believe that if you do you can save them to it to make this quicker.

See live stationary voltage inputs... if they are all similar or very close(between 2 - 2.3v) the problem is most probably the hub, if the one with the code is out of that it's a wiring issue ...or ECU misbehaviour

Thanks for that. Agreed, swapping the cables over would be a first step.....presupposing I can identify them at the ECU...... the number of wiring schematics out there is something else....just need to find the right one. Tbh, I'm a little surprised that the sensor is as sensitive to wear in the ring as you imply, but I've seen that said on other threads too.
But....and it's a big but! ....as of yesterday, the lights have now gone out, for 10 miles or so! So I'm leaving well alone for the moment, and we'll see what happens. Fingers xxx. I'll post any follow-ups! Thanks for the advice
