Hello again,

I have searched for diagnostic tool readers. Iast thread I can see was 2013 so prices may have changed since then. I am after one to basically keep on top of my td5. I'd like one that reads all types of codes inc ABS, Engine, Hill descent SRS etc.

Can you advise on which to buy, there are plenty on ebay etc but I just want a half decent one for not silly monies.

The main problem you're going to come across is that the Disco 2 Td5 is NOT OBDII compatible, even though the diagnostic socket looks the same. This means that all the cheaper readers for the OBDII vehicles might not give sensible or proper truthful readings and of those which do, they might not allow you to make changes.

There are a few which have been built with the Disco 2 in mind of which the most notable are Hawkeye, Nanocom, Lynx and Testbook. Unfortunately they all fall into the category of what you might call "silly money". There might be some others but it's likely that they too will be in the same price bracket.
 
I just got a Nanocom for just over £200 by jumping in on that group buy. You may be just in time. Brian is right, the cheap OBDIIs do not work and will never work.
 
my advice is to not do it... very limited coverage for D2, the most complicated issues which are needing tester involvment are relaated to the BCU and this device is almost useless there... no programming capabiliries at all, it will only read/clear codes or check some outputs you can't even use it to replace an ECM or code injectors, it's 40% the price but covers it covers max 10% of what a proper one can(nanocom or hawkeye)
 
I've already seen that but that doesn't show it doing anything
The company's own literature States it only reads defender from 2007 which is Tdci

If you read that particular advert properly, you'll find that the fabulous list of capabilities applies to "Specific Module Coverage for Land Rover Range Rover (L322) (2002-2006)".
Now go back to the advert and click on the link for a Discovery 2, just above the list of capabilities box.
I think you'll also find that it is "model specific" too.

This is the one I got for the Rangie....which also does my Disco, and the iCarsoft i930 does my pals Disco 3 and freelander 2
 
in this thread it's about D2 Td5 not others, see the coverage list starting from page 579 http://www.obd2be.com/download/autocom-cdp-pro-support-car-list.pdf then compare with what the iCarsoft tool can for a Td5, i've had this tool myself and did exactly what's in the list well, i gave it to my son in law who has a garage... that Autocom CDP pro is kinda out of the market cos there are newer versions with even better coverage at the same price, aroud 50 quid, i think this one is on the same protocol but can't vouch for it http://www.carobdtool.co.uk/wholesale/bluetooth-tcscdp-pro-with-keygen-and-4g-memory-card.html some research is needed to find out which is the version now
