muds I take it you have a td5 if so I have heard the fault all to many times and is generally down to one thing the power supply to one relay this relay alows power to the engine management/ ecu just incase as if the cause the diagnostic equipment wont work as there wont be power to the ecu if the fault is still present thought I would mention incase they do have problems. :)

Betsy is a TD5. :)

Fingers crossed for some good news.

Cheers Jess , we did change a couple of relays back in August ...and she's been ok since , until now ...so if it is relay failure again , surely there must be a reason for that ....cant really comment on the progress , as they'd only just started to look at her when I called in after work . No oil leaking to the ECU , so that's something ...our convo morphed round to green laning and galv chassis ..then I left  should know more tomorrow :)

I consulted the gurus at work today regarding td5 and they said muxh the same as Jess did above more than likely something silly, those engines take a hell of a thrashing and it's always something silly that causes a problem

Well, don't keep us all in suspense! :5btoetap05: :D

Is Betsy gonna live?

Yes I'm keen to know too maybe they've been riders and got a brand spanker on the way

Hope not, they seem to rust up pretty quick, judging by what you see up SWEB :D

Betsy is a sought after model now, lot of people don't seem to like the later stuff.

07 onwards seems to be the most rusty and they don't sound as nice as the 5 cylinder throbbing away

I hope so ...although diagnostics are still unclear ( apparently ) ...in tank fuel pump is flagging up , but also relays thereof ...obviously Nige doesn't want to wade in to do the in-tank fuel thing unless he's 100% sure , I've suggested going the relay route to start with ( less money before xmas ) he's been trying to get Bets to fail , but she keeps firing up and running like a good'n  ...so today I'm sporting a little petrol Polo and Bets is still wired up . Is it possible ( my brainiac friends ) to drive round with some sort of diagnostic tool ( nanocom?) actually plugged in ..so if she fails , it can be detected there an then?

I wish ...no actually forget that - i'd scratch the bugger up too quickly.:D

I have to say I was a little bit sad when I was told I could have a loan car - although they are normally only for loyal customers  Been taking Betsy to this guy for years and I only took her to the nearer garage for an MOT this year and when the wipers failed ...I guess there is NO such thing as loyalty or folks have short memories :(

One big problem with the puma engine'd landy's and that's whats bolted onto the back on the engine lol I have known so many screw boxes Same seems to happen in alot of the newer transits as well. saw a late 110 and it doesn't have the bulkhead air vents !!! that's one of the landrovers most distinct features that has not changed since 1948.

Hope you get your truck sorted soon Muds the chances are what ever it is going to be something silly. Had one in similar thing went to loads of garages (none land rover specialists) turned out to be a small earth wire in the drivers seat box the bolt securing it came loose so sometimes it ran fine then it lost contact and nothing.

I don't know anything about that sort of stuff, all my kit is electronic free, spanners only sort of stuff. :)

You could post a fred in TD5 section, I am sure james and some of the others know them inside out. ;)

I was shocked when I saw that! :(

Even though I only use them a couple of times a year, they have always been there, and I would miss them.

yes you can drive with a nanocom fitted,it would then show you all the engine data in real time,if and when it started playing up,it would log it as a fault.

Maybe I'm a bit fiery but at the point of being told only for loyal I would of left and never gone back .. Even if I had to push the thing up the road

It should if there is a fault log it in the ecu some readers wont show all the codes if there was a fuel pump fault it should show as low input fuel pressure or something along the lines. if the fuel pump has a loose connection this should also flag up with a fault but under body electrics in the control system.
My money will be on a relay or even a fuse with poor connection as if the ecu isn't powering up it will turn over etc but obviously wont do much else.

Did the engine management flash up as normal when you turned the ignition on when she wouldn't fire ?

You can hook up a Raspberry Pi to the electronics fairly easily, and then you could write up some code to read and record data for when (or if) she fails

Ha , I know what you mean , but Bets was already there ...this convo was on the phone ...impossible without eye contact to know if he was joking or not ...anyway it's looking more like it could be the ECU itself ...so maybe I should go laning in his Polo this weekend :D

Initially the ecu light and coil light came on ( along with all the regular warning reds e.g handbrake/oil etc) but she wouldn't fire , so i switched off and re-tried ..then no ecu or coil and she wouldn't fire , so back off with the ignition and on again ..ecu and coil came on and went out ( as normal ) she fired - then died , and then on the last attempt she fired and idled normally for about 5 mins ...which was when i decided to head for the garage instead of home - just in case i didn't make it! :D
