With regard pushing vs pulling pushing is easier than pulling try pulling a car then try pushing its by far easier to push than
Pull.

you do actually get more grip with rear as weight is transfered with the action of rear wheels trying to lift front of car

I'm not saying u wrong cause I don't think you are but why are front wheel drives better than rear in the snow?

Because the weight of the engine is over the wheels, a RWD car has no weight pushing down on the wheels and this makes them suffer, also RWD's generally use fat tyres which hinder in the snow. The VW beetle is almost unbeatable in the snow as its very light, RWD and rear engined so all the weight pushes on the skinny rear wheels.

Twas thinking about getting an Ashcroft or arb air locker soon so glad this topic has come up, the idea of fit and forget Detroit is very appealing, done a search for a Detroit and came up with this Diff Detroit Locker 24 Spline - Each totalparts.co.uk is this a proper Detroit as it is labelled a bearmach part? Any body know where else to pic up a Detroit and what one should cost?

Hehe after reading this thread this seams a better option;)

Thanks James for the confirmation just found them a little cheaper on padocks site:)

How a bout fitting is this a specialist job?

Be wary tho ashcroft stopped selling rover detroits because of so many failures on rover type units that would not be repaired under warranty

Ring Ashcroft or crown diffs search for kaiser locker similar to a Detroit and I think if I was going for a unit to fit a rover axle then kaiser would win my bro has one and it's done many many road Miles tis good as a Detroit

no, but you need a dti to check crown wheel is set true and set back lash ,you just remove old carrier swap crown wheel (may need moving round to get truest position)then fit locker adjust crown wheel side adjuster till backlash is just removed then adjust other till correct backlash is put in

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Sailsbury Detroit (Eaton) locker and a Sailsbury Truetrac and what is better ?

Detroit locker is a true locker a trutrac is a torque biasing as described in previous pages or on Ashcroft website.

Locker for fit and forget as is the trutrac Offroad the locker is better slight handling issues On road trutrac is better no handling issues

Because they can.

I think lr is a very limited market most detroits are for the yank axles ford 9 inch Dana aka Salisbury like what is fitted to many jeeps and pickup trucks
