I have took the whole thing off from the bolts behind the big ball, then pull the whole unit away with shafts attached to it. But just took the smaller half shaft out and there's nothing wrong with that either!rrrr rather annoying. Do you have any idea on what to look for next? Thanks

Diff or cv.
With the hub out, rotate the half shaft and see if it turns the hub/disc. If both seem ok then could be diff.
Seeinh as you've got both hubs out anyway might aswell pop diff out (only ten 9/16" nuts) and have a look at it. Will be obvious if it has gone, if not check backlash and fit back in.

Kieran you know you can't get the halfshaft out from behind the swivel ball, it has to come out the front, that's why I say about taking stub axle off.
That way you can check cv joint whilst you're in there, and you have to pull out the drive member so you check that shaft also as part of the job.

Well I wasn't sure how to take it out that way as I got shown from behind the ball (with the 12point nuts).
But now that you mention it mate there was abit of play on the longer shaft where it goes inside the hub, but it was turning the shaft but not very smoothly like the smaller shaft.

Well look at it this way at least yours has all four wheels on,only got three on mine,and might have to take another off,lol, if you need a lift it tomorrow mate ring me. As I'll probs want a break from mine.
That's a bit under about leaving the landy! Hope you get it sorted mate and at least it didn't happen out on a lane.

Yeah back wheel bearing collapsed and most ma rear bushes have gone under closer inspection. aframe and tracking arms . Its at ma mates now. gona get it sorted tmz.
