What you’ve described seems a good start.
 
  1. Leave transfer box in neutral..............Simples
  2. Insert switch cut out to ECU
  3. Get DECENT pedal box (they cut the pedal with mini battery grinder thus clutch claw or similar useless)
  4. Point cctv at the thing
  5. get an alarm.
Nothing is full proof, but anything that slows them down and makes a **** load of noise you have more chance of catching them and giving them a good hiding................

Personally i like the transfer box neutral trick, so simple but no drive whatsoever!!
Its caught me out a few times and I was the one that did it .....;);):confused:

Definitely fit a tracker. Nothing will prevent a determined thief, everything mentioned already will prevent opportunists and slow them down but if they really want it it will get winched/craned onto the back of a truck in a couple of minutes regardless of what you have fitted. At least with a tracker if you notice it is missing quickly enough you have a small chance of getting it back.
 
Sadly what yer said about the disco 4 is correct. They amplify the keyless signal so it thinks the key is local to it and copy the key then drive oft. Keyless entry can be disabled by the owner.
 
My solution has been to just wrap a section of 10mm stainless steel mooring chain round the brake pedal and the steering wheel, and padlock it with a stainless padlock. Nothing is fool proof but it will take forever to cut it, even with power tools and you’d have to make a sh&t load of noise to do so. And it is a very visible deterrent. Hopefully they see it and move on to something easier. I wind black electrical tape round the pedal stalk to protect the paint. The chain is actually very smooth so doesn’t cause any damage to the wheel. Chain is about £15 for two metres, and padlock £5. You do have to wind it in a particular way, but it interlocks and is impossible to unravel. Simples.

I just found my 90 has no working locks!! It's going to be a pain to sort out so it's not going anywhere until I can lock it :)
The rear door is a cat flap with no lock mechanism. The front doors are old school handles and need fitting correctly so the lock will work.....

I'd add that if you leave it in a remote spot to go for a walk up a mountain or something I reckon the risk is more from opportunist break in's than organised vehicle theft. This is more likely from where it is left often, or at home, where it is seen regularly and the theft planned. Mine is parked tight to the garage door with one of the Freelanders tight to the back end. My brother in law lives in a very very nice neighbourhood. Top end Merc with all the security gizzmos. Went outside one morning to find his car on bricks and all four wheels gone. 2nd time now. A colleague had his Disco 4 nicked from outside his house this year. Police reckon they read his key fob from outside the house & told it to switch the car on - just drove it away. Don't know if that's even possible but they disarmed, unlocked & started it without a key in a matter of seconds and 11 high end cars from the same area were nicked in 30 minutes. You are not going to defend against that level of organisation.
