Not sure if all the roofs in landys are the same, but if they are, mine has 3 beams running from the very front to the point where the roof joins the back section. One in the dead centre and one about a foot either side of that. They are about 4cm wide and 20mm deep. I just pop riveted ply board to mine and carpeted the roof otherwise I would have taken some pics for you.

i contacted lrs via ebay and this is the response i got :-
it fits to the screen surround and the rib in the roof , email me at lrsoffroad page and i will email photos of fitting
so i have just emailed lrs at there website and will post back with the piccys they send

cool.. cheers!!

I didnt have time today to get the roof lining out, so will try and get that done tomorrow...

might do a cardboard template as well, so I now sizes of sheet metal to buy

here is how LRS fit there roof consoles

so it only bolts at the front and back? there's nothing to bolt to in the middle?

thought it would have more support in the middle..

seems that way mate would have thought it would have caused vibration against the roof console with the middle roof support taken off and no fixings there but thats how they fit there's so hope this helps with your design and keep us updated on how you get on bud

yeh, it does help, thanks for that.

I was going to start on the templates today but a mate came round so I could fit his breather kit, then his brakes were soft, so sorted that out, then noticed one wheel was about to wonder off and had to do the wheel bearings...... not time for my stuff!!

will try and get a move on tomorrow..

but as you say, nothing in the middle, the roof might vibrate against it....mmm.. I'll have to see how it goes, but that helps, now i know what to expect when i take the roof lining.

What a useful thread, i'm just in the process of designing something along the similar lines for my series roof, slightly different as I have different requirements from it, but, great to see what a 'properly made' one looks like

well... today was the day!

got the bits of card ready and got to work.

first thing.... I dont think I'll remove that middle strut, the roof will have no support at all in the middle, dont like it... so what I'll do is make a channel on the top plate of the roof console, so it fits in there, and I'll use the strut to bolt the console to it as well as to the front and back, I think it will be much better like this.

So.. here's some pictures, this was the first attempt and first template, from this one, I can still cut 1" off the shelf where the radio and CB are going to go.
even cutting this inch, and with the strut in place, gives enough room for the radio.

the back piece I'll put a light facing the rear and 2 lights for driver and passeger, kind like you have on a plane, possibly on that back plate I'll also put switches for the beacons I have on the roof, rear working light (if I fit one) and roof light bar (if I fit one)

Big advantage of having a roof console is that you can have loads of stuff and not worrying about bringing the power wires through the pilar, which dont have much space anyway. everything will just run on roof.

with this design, Im thinking of having a big sheet of metal where I'll cut, in one single piece, the sides and bottom and then fold the sides up.... less welding to do!

I'll also have to weld some kind of tabs to the side of the console, so i can then clip the roof lining to it....also need to cut the roof lining.

what do you guys think of it?

looking smart keep up the good work mate if i had'nt just bought a raptor dash console i would have considered making one. but saying that i may give it ago but for a storage device for maps, phones etc.

Well.. here's a bit of an update!!

Havent had much time since Nov to work on this, but as Im on leave till the 20th Feb, I'll try and get this done....if nothing else comes up to fix!

So after the cardboard template, I trimmed it down in size and shape as the cardboard was too big....

So far all I've done is cut a metal template of one of the sides, as the cardboard was too floppy and I wanted to be sure of measurements..

Now need to get the other side cut and bottom and top pieces, etc.. and weld it all together.
If I do more than one though, I'll probably have sides and top as one single unit and then fold it in...

but as a first piece I'll be going to weld most of the areas.

I remember seeing this when you first started JP. but then i lost the thread.

Ive always fancied a roof console but there so bloody expensive for what they are.

Now subscribed, good work.

expensive.... but very easy to do :D that's why im doing my own

taking more time as I dont have all the metal available, so a mate is trying to source some free sheet metal so I can carry on...

I'll keep this updated as I go along...
