what year if a old fj40 its a coin toss they are on chevy chassie's

Landrover will hold its value for much longer....could even be worth more than you paid for it....depending how much you paid in the 1st place.
Landcruiser is more comfy.
Landrover has loads more character.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i would of thought a landrover would be much cheaper to run/repair and insure :D:D.

If your not doing loads of miles/hellishly long journeys weekly...go for the 300tdi landrover.

not sure posted a question on my supra forum about the defender and not ruleing anything else out and people said how about the landcruiser
will have to norrow the search of those down like i have done with the defender, think the 110 300tdi is the defender im after but dont want to rule anything else out.

ok mate fair points

It depends on what you want from the vehicle, If it is a comfy, everyday vehicle you want, buy the land cruiser. If you want a workhorse that will do anything you ask of it, and still provide an acceptable level of comfort and performance, then I would choose the Defender every time. To be honest, the vast majority of the reliability issues with the Tdi engined defenders are down to owner neglect. If you check oil and coolant regularly, and give the whole vehicle a thorough look over every few weeks for signs of rust and corrosion, and deal with minor faults before they become major breakdowns, then there is absolutely no reason why the Land Rover shouldn't last for at least 250-300k miles, and be thoroughly reliable.

THANK YOU: this is what i thought 300,000+ on a desiel serviced on a regular time frame, no problem. What i see here is beat the **** out of them until they quit than fix'em up. Does anyone give them a good under carriage wash after green laning, sure would save on repairs :D:D:D

well im a bricklayer so it will be for throwing the tools in the back and driving to site, if we need to travel far it needs to be decent on the road (economy, performance, reliable)
didnt go for a van because on the odd weekend I'll like to do abit of off roading
economy what ever I get will either have a gass conversion or run on veg oil.
performance as long as it pulls off nice on roundabouts and keep up on motorway etc
reliable I know the defender is easyer to work on then the toyota but whould be nice to to work on it at all lol, I know you can get a vehicle thats renowed for reliability like the old hilux and still pick one that gets faults but better than getting one thats renowed for breaking down all the time.

for all rounder with a bit more room in the back easy to fix, wih a bit more comfort then a defender I would suggest a Disco 300 tdi commecial, have you thought about one of them?

Ye had thought about those mate but wad told they go wrong more than the defender. (not saying thats, true just what people say)

Land cruiser will be far more reliable, but servicing/ parts will be more expensive. We all love LR products, but they do require, lets say, more "tlc" than the jap vehiicles. that said, they are a little better off road (if you want full on off road ability, it has to be LR IMO) and have bags more character.

For me, in short:-

Daily drive - Land Cruiser
Toy/ Weekender - Fender
