I have one of these. Footplate, column with a worm thread bar in, ratchet on the top. The bit of pole on the threaded bar goes into the crossmember hole.
Am I right in saying, I’m not missing a part that locks the lifting pole bit in place at 90 degrees and the Jack actually locks itself in the crossmember hole?

This bit - it’s on. Hinge and goes through the crossmember hole. I think the whole point in the reinforced crossmember hole is so it locks this out against itself (which is so is a cool little quirk). You also have holes in the front dumb irons for it.

Should be in the top ten of most rubbisho_O things ever supplied by Land rover. get a bottle jack or one for a Disco unless you just want it for show.
Got a Jack in the defender anyway as I often need one for other jobs. I was doing some welding on a chassis earlier and had run out of supports so used the pillar Jack that hadn’t been out its bag to support whilst chopping/welding. Definitely useful for that. I wouldn’t want to use it on anything but a flat floor though! I do like the idea of it however, little defender quirk.

I had a problem with mine on a 110 county, my fault because I was a little enthusiastic with it and lifted the rear more than needed to change a wheel.
It started to deform the rear crossmember around the jack hole. Nothing wrong with the crossmember, just a shit design. never used anything other than a bottle jack or trolley jack since.

My 90 did the same thing, and that was what prompted me to get the new xmember fitted asap!

Yes that’s because it looks itself and becomes a centrifugal twisting force isn’t it! Rather than lifting straight up. I wouldn’t use it on my 90 - ive got fingers crossed the crossmember will make it through mot next month so I can save and do a few bits at once.
