HI all,

I am a novice when it comes to Land Rovers but its a great feeling owning one at long last :D

My question is..... I want to change the speakers in the front of my Defender but I'm having difficulty working out how to get access to them? In the past on old cars it used to be the case of undoing the facia screws to the speaker and just poping it out, but the ones I have currently have no screws? it is a case I have to start taking the dashboard out? I hope not as that seems a lot of work just for speakers.

Any suggestions to what ones to buy to give the best sound?

Any help would be most greatful, go gently on me as I said I'm new to the Landy world.

Many thanks

Jase

My current speakers need the mesh that covers them taking off to access screws, but mine aren't standard land rover speakers.

Hi,
Great stuff, I went in with the screwdriver and I managed to pop off the mesh.....and yes there were the screws!!

Right now for choice of new speakers!

Cheers

Well, I went to an audio specialist in Oxford and spent £380 lol...new speakers with tweaters and a sub woofer....wow the sound is fantastic.... a happy man again.....:D:D:D

Lotta money!! Cos the left speaker in mine is a very shallow fit bought 2 adapter pods for £11.50 delivered and whacked 2 kenwood 100mm in there....tada...cant hear tractor noise anymore. :)

the speakers from maplin are pretty good, I have them fitted in the standard land rover plinths, Also got some in the back of the 90 as well. They do sound pretty good

Yes a lot of money, but as you say I can not hear the tractor noise any more lol...
Having a sub installed behind the passenger seat makes such a difference and they hid the wires very well under the matting / carpets and the best part they have left some space to fit another sub and can easily link it to the other one for even more sound :D

Thanks for all the replies much aprreciated.

JR (yes someone shot me back in the 80's ) lol

I'm going to have the same problem with my front speakers, at the moment it sounds as if i'm wading and we are just below water level, but i wont be paying £380.
