Apologies for the question as this has probably been covered before (I think the search tool isn't working)
As a new Defender owner im obviously concerned about the security of my 110. I have recently bought a Disklok and Clutch claw to help prevent complete theft of the vehicle but im left wondering what are the options to protect the doors and the bonnet which seem to be an easy target. I've looked at door hinge security plates to secure the back of the door bolts to gluing in 5mm ball bearings to the bolt head recess (seems a cheap affective cure).
Seems to be a few options to secure the bonnet, a cable release guard and a wing top bonnet cable guard. Are any of these affective? and have any members added them to their Defenders?.

I guess the worry will wear off slightly but at the moment its shadowing the joy of the LR experience.
 
Understandable - if you check out my thread which is of a similar vein. As much as i would like to buy cool stuff, most of the cash is going on security. Most expensive will be the deadlocks for all 5 doors. I think that is a good effort, having had my last one nicked.
 
Dont want to sound like a total tight a*se, but is it not possible to cut some plate, rivet it to the underside of the standard plastic part. then if anyone unscrews it they still wont gain access due to the plate being rivited in
 
Unfortunately the easiest way in to most cars is to simply prise open the top of the door and defenders are especially bendy. Not much you can do to stop people getting in if they really want to. Most security devices are simply deterants.

A lot of high value cars these days are simply towed away. I would make sure you are with a reputable insurance company who will pay out what your vehicle is worth if it is stolen

I agree, there is little to stop organised crime. The things I have are to slow down or dissuade the casual thief.
I like the idea of the little plates for the doors. I will fabricate my own as £40 for a set of plates is a little steep for me :)

Anything peeps can do to increase the above, makes it more difficult to nick and profit from it.

It's easier (psychologically) for thieves to steal off the wealthy and also from big corporate businesses rather than an individual with a human face (unless the thief is in the withdrawal state of heroin, in which case he won't discriminate). I can't imagine a joy rider nicking my car. It stinks of dog. However, when I first got mine I was gonna buy pedal locks, window etching, tracker, smart water, windows etched with "pity me, I'm poor"; immobiliser switch, alarm, wheel clamps ... . I realise now that there isn't an effective condom for a tratter and it's not a Faberge egg anyway. It's insured, I lock it as expected, and the rest is a big cheesy sticker, something like 'F&^k it. Nick it. There's Novichok on my massive steering wheel yer gonna struggle to turn, and if you do nick it, I hope you die'.
 
Yes I just put new bonnet hinges and the LRD slam panel guard on my Defender Puma. It’s an evenings work in a well lit garage and the slam panel cable protector is a bit of a faff. You’ll also need a poprivet gun. I sleep better now it’s been done if that counts for anything. It’s a reasonable fabrication and if I had a plasma cutter I could TIG my own up, but I don’t so I bought one.

Not sure of the value of window etching, Myside glass is all fully covered by my insurance and most thieves that sell them on have a tub of fluorine paste and just etch a square box over the old etching. If I bought a robbed door (and I wouldn’t) I’d smash the glass and get a new window for free...

I also did the door plates, I bought them as they need a joggle folded into them, add nylock or K nuts (so when they undo the bolts outside the nuts wont come off the back they just spin). I have a bunch of other bits too like a steering wheel lock.

I also did the rear quarter windows, push them hard they just push in. That’s how I took them out, I was surprised it was so easy. I’ve put the LRD frames in with the wire mesh, and bolted them up.

Hippo’s statement above is true however I sadly add “be harder to rob than someone else” and they will move on... I also have a Nest CCTV pointing over the car.
