Hi all,

Some time ago I read a thread about using self adhesive pads from a company that may, or may not have been in Yorkshire, followed by covering these things in a carpet from Amazon.

For the life of me, I can't find the thread or where I got the pads from!

Help!!

I've tried a few things from throw in carpet, to fitted mats to rubber to whatever was available .. and I say don't bother!

I get more noise from the tyres than engine/gearbox and any carpets I have just seem to get wetter and wetter and muddier and muddier .. easier to leave it all out, then just jetwash it .. ;)

Same in the back, I have ally treadplate in and used mats to deaden the sound .. didn't make much difference (I think the tub's loose!) but they also get wet and muddy, currently hung over a fence till it rains enough to wash 'em ....

I guess if I stayed out the water it'd help but that's not good fun ..

Std rubber mats used as a guide to cut out patterns in conveyor belt make a difference with the conveyor belt under the std rubber mats.
Ive just used conveyor belt on the floor in the back
Anything carpet on the floor/bulkhead is a really bad idea in a defender.

I was going to use the carpet on the seat box / rear bulkhead (its a truck cab), over the top of some more of these pads - if I can remember where I got them from!

If you use a closed cell polyurethane foam (closed cell is important or it'll saturate with water) it'll insulate heat and sound whilst not absorbing any water without being heavy as he'll like rubber sheeting is

I used this stuff all round the seatbox, footwells, inside of doors etc. Then I covered the seatbox in black gel back carpet. Works a treat.

Were 10 sheets sufficient? I want to do my 90... thoroughly... as my other halfs main gripe is the noise... so i'll do what it takes to shut her up. I just don't fancy paying through my ears. Would you advise the gel back carpet as essential?
