Hello All,
I got a wee prob with my defender 300tdi a 96 vintage none abs, I just cant bleed them, all pistons are free all nipples clear plus a new master cylinder,,,, no matter which calliper I I try I get about 3 to 4 pumps full of air then the fluid flow stops, tried bleed tube and peddle method, and tried vacuum bleeding,,, not tried a pressure bleed yet will need to go buy one,,,, any ideas lads.

Cheers Tom

Clamp on the rear hose by the rear axle.
That way you are only bleeding front brakes.
Once you have good front brakes clamp the 2 front flexes off then release the rear & bleed. Once you have good rear remove clamps & check all round.

Check the master cylinder is actually returning to itss top position, if the piston is not returning fully, you will not get any fresh fluid into the bore for the pistion to push out with each press of the pedal.
Do not forget, new does not always mean good!

All im getting is vast amounts of air almost no fluid
if you have free play at the pedal remove a pipe from the master pres pedal down and put your finger over the hole before allowing pedal to rise, repeat till fluid flows with each pedal press, youll need to do a rear and front pipe on the master

When it all started I had front brakes working well but no rears, I thought may be they had sticky pistons, so pads removed check for free movement ,,, pistons tried on the peddle they worked normally, so started to bleed the system,,, it wouldn't bleed, couple of pumps and no move fluid movement,,, same on all four calliper's now, tried a few methods for bleeding and all I get is a reducing amount of fluid in the bleed and vast amounts of air,,,, from the amount of air I would think a leak would be leaking fluid too but no,,, im now starting to think brake bias valve,,, don't know pulling whats left of my hair out now

Bang on the money I think,, yes mine is blowing fluid out the top too,,,, and yes I was starting to think bias valve,,,, looks an S O B to get at,, oh well let hope it don't rain
