since so many peeps on here have converted there 90's with the 200 tdi engine's have have you gone about declaring it to dvla ??? due to the fact that many of the conversions have been done at home on the drive or in residential garages. the reason i ask is i've done the conversion myself from a 2.5 petrol to a 2.5 tdi diesel and looked on the dvla website and it states as follows :-

You’ll need to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about the following changes to your vehicle:
  • colour
  • engine
  • cylinder capacity
  • fuel type (propulsion)
  • replacing or modifying the chassis/monocoque bodyshell
  • seating capacity
  • weight of a goods vehicle
Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:
  • a receipt for the replacement engine
  • written evidence from the manufacturer
  • an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
  • written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle
Change to fuel type

DVLA will need written confirmation of any changes to fuel type if:
  • your existing engine is converted - the confirmation must be on headed paper from the garage that carried out the work
  • a new engine is fitted - the receipt will be required as confirmation

In the real world, why would you need to?

If it's a 19J to 200Tdi, other than the engine number what is the difference that DVLA need to know?

It has the same size, capacity, fuel type, etc etc, the head's different but the block is virtually the same.

increased BHP and different engine no. Registration is more about tracking the vehicle and knowing how much money to claw back off you in taxation

As been said with a 19j conversion to tdi you only need to give new engine no as capacity and fuel type haven't changed, but from petrol to diesel you have to let them know about the fuel change although this shouldn't be an issue, if your change is from 25 petrol to tdi you need to give them new engine no and change fuel type from petrol to diesel and send off the v5 that's it simples

well i have filled out my v5 tonight declaring my engine change from a 2.5 petrol to the 200tdi diesel which i will post off on monday. so i guess i will soon find out !!! i will report back when i hear from them fingers crossed it will be straight forward and they won't want me to do a vic check cause that will be a pain in the arse. but on the other hand i want it all to be declared and above board incase of an accident.

been 2 weeks now since sending my v5 off to dvla and nothing back yet no v5 or a letter to say there's a problem.
any one know how long i should wait before contacting them about it.

because i need the v5 back to apply for a duplicate mot certificate and the tax cause the previous owner lost them both.

I think you slipped up there you should of got MOT and tax before sending of V5 would of saved waiting,as long as insurance knew about any changes i reckon you would of been legal to use it on the road whilst waiting for V5 to be returned from Swansea.

yeah but if i had applyed for the mot and tax before changing named drivers over they both would have been sent to the previous owner and i don't have any contact with the previous owner now

no as all the work was done by myself on my driveway so i thought i would try my luck and send it off without one

what have you sent it with then??? i was going to take it to a garage for them to have a look, and write a letter, which i would photocopy and put in with it..

i did'nt send anything with it at all. all i sent was the v5 with the details changed on it and if they write to me asking for proof i will then cross that bridge when it happens.
