Your MOT is online. You no longer get a certificate when you MOT a vehicle. You just get a receipt. You do not need an MOT certificate or V5 to insure and use the vehicle, nor to tax it.

yeah but the vehicle was mot'd before that new rule came in so i should have an mot certificate and i also need the reference number off the v5 to be able to get a replacement tax disc as the old disc was lost. the vehicle was mot'ed until april and taxed until july, so i don't want to get spending out to re-tax and mot it if i don't have to.

not really in any rush no just would like to get it sorted thats all. and due to my limited budget, i don't wanna get paying out for stuff i don't need to. guess i will just have to play the waiting game lol. thanks for your input.

thats not so bad then! if you were in a rush you have to try and get it re taxed and mot'd!
itl be interesting to see what they say coz you havent given them anything with the v5.. if they just do it il send mine off without a letter too! keep us posted!

You could phone DVLA (yes they do answer their phones) and at least get confirmation that they've received your V5 and are dealing with it. Or, if you're ever in Cardiff or Bristol, you could call into one of their local offices. With a personal visit and some identification you might even leave with your V5 number or even a replacement tax disc.

A word to the wise fom someone who deals with the DVLA on a weekly basis. Don't ever send them anything without keeping a photocopy.
If you've got to send your licence in then, before you do, pay £5 and get a copy of your driving entitlements, especially if you've got anything more than the basics. Then, when they lose your licence or send it back without your motorbike entitlement (for example) you've got grounds to argue your case. There are hundreds of examples of people who sent their licence in for things as simple as a change of address and it came back missing entitlements. I've even heard of a motorbike cop who had to re-sit his test as DVLA wouldn't even accept his employer's word that he had a motorbike licence.

Regardless of new or old system, your MOT is logged online. Go look it up yourself on the DVLA website. As long as the vehicle is MOTd and taxed Lucan insure it. The insurance is also online. You can the use the vehicle. If you're worried about displaying a tax disk put a note in the disk holder tha replacement is in progress. Doyoureallythink plod don't already know if you are taxed, MOTd and insured the moment they run your number plate?

i know its all logged online now and will come up on there anpr system but that that does'nt stop jobsworths giveing you a ticket for not displaying a valid tax disc and as for sticking a note in the window they don't/ won't except this as valid proof

Technically still an offence not to display the disc. £200 fine and you can be reported by traffic wardens and highways agency wombles not just the plod. Would need a proper "jobs worth" copper to stick you on though especially as he would already know that you have bought and paid for a valid disc.

Happened to me. Changed my address and the evil gits took my HGV entitlements off plus my grandfather towing entitlements which should have been a no brainer as they knew what date I passed my driving test. Took more than nine months for them to admit they were wrong and reinstate them but not before they refused point blank unless I took retests for the various entitlements at my own expense. They said that as my main employment was not as an HGV driver it did not disadvantage me in any way and that towing a trailer was a privilege and not a right. Took them to court and on the day before the case was to be heard they conceded when my brief mentioned that I had a photocopy of my old licence and proof of my initial driving test and HGV test results among a myriad of other evidence. Never got a bean for the inconvenience though.

When dealing with the DVLA Photocopy everything send it recorder deliveryt and keep the tracking number then call them every two weeks

As for the engine change i changed my V5 earlier in the year as it still had a 19J engine instead of the 200tdi, Just sent the V5 Slip with the new engine number and got it back and a new tax disk for some reason
