I have decided to sell my car as I am getting grief from her indoors

I have put a small fortune into this car so it hasn't ever let me down to the point where it was off the road for any time (although melting a suspension pipe warranted a trip home on a breakdown truck :p resulting in new exhaust back boxes)

I have replaced many many parts, I have a folder with hundreds of invoices/receipts for parts/work done and a FSH in the service history book.

I have ordered new cats (£306 + vat :() and await their arrival. My mate at G&M Motors is going to fit them and re-align the new boxes to stop the rattle (so she'll have a complete new exhaust front to rear).

I have decided to remove some of my mods along with other things that wont enhance the price and sell them separately.

So am looking to get some advice... What are 4x Mondial wheels with decent tyres worth?

Should I sell the car with the roof rails I put on, or remove them and sell separately? I can't imagine they will add much to the value of the car as is.

Should I sell with the 10 inch android system or remove and fit a modern single DIN stereo cd player? Thing is, it operates well and the volume, etc works from the steering wheel.... And the headrest screens work.

Anyway, I am not sure what to ask for the car and perhaps a little advice on that too. I don't want a fortune, but I do want what it is worth given that it has benefited from many new parts and been well looked after. I would also give away the grease gun so the new owner could carry on greasing the UJ's at the props.

2000 THOR V8 4.0 with 21,000 miles on it (it was replaced under warranty at 82,000) and has had 4 oil & filter changes in that time. The car is coming up to 104,000 miles or so.

Diffs benefited from new oil about 3,000 miles ago (perhaps less)

Gearbox got new oil when I changed the cooler about 4,000 miles ago

Usual servicing and stamps to show. New suspension airbags (Dunlop) at 84,000 miles (2016)
EAS pump had new piston seal a few months back & the valve block had the "O" rings done circa 2017 then again last year when I was chasing a leak. I also replaced the 3 valves and the exhaust valve thingy.

I upgraded the car from grey interior to light-stone with the benefits of heated seats and two stage memory.

Heated screen. Fully functioning AC. Wood & leather steering wheel to match the interior.

Outside it's had a new front right CV and ABS sensor as well as a pressure sphere for the pump last year along with black poly bushes.

I still have a couple of small jobs to do to bring her up to excellent condition, so she will be ready by end of July with any luck. I have a chap who can do the headlining and await lifting of Scottish covid restrictions.

I need to chase the weep from the coolant pipes, but I read somewhere that a chap had the EXACT same issues as me (bubbling, coolant drips) and his was caused by heater hoses split at the ends where someone had overtightened the jubilee clips! I have decent equal pressure hose clips for that problem, so maybe it will stop the weep.

So all in all, I'll be sad to see the car go, but I have my next car in my sights.

So what should I ask with an idea that the car, while not immaculate, is in very good order otherwise?

Thanks all.

The roof rails are fetching around 300 quid on the Bay. But wouldn't add much to the value of your car. So I'd sell them on their own... or give them to me ;)

The android setup would be worth more installed since it all works. Admittedly not silly money more, but a second hand head unit would struggle to be worth more than 100 wangers.

You see tidy examples of P38s anywhere from 5 to 10k these days. It appears they are just starting to hit the climb into silly money status.

Thanks for that.

When you say "give" the rails to you, would this involve you "giving" me some loot as a recompense :D

I don't think they are worth £300, but I would be happy with £200

I also have a spare EAS pump all ready to go and a valve block all serviced. I have electric motors for seats and all manner of bits and bobs. I think I may make a few quid selling things. What d'you suppose my Mondials are worth with or without the tyres?

I would just sell it as it is with all the stuff...
Say it’s the next owners bonus for takeing away your pain....
Removing and sell the parts separate will only prolong your agony....

10" android head units seem to range from £75 to £250 ish. Value in or out of the car probably depends on the install look, and the buyer's preferences. Everything else working, especially spare EAS stuff probably worth more than re-selling the stereo separately.

Highest actual sold price for P38's on eBay seems to be £2999. There's others listed for more money, but they show as completed but not sold !!

Maybe autotrader would be better place to sell, or find a local car dealer to sell it for you, and agree a percentage each ?

As if I could afford them. I like the idea of them, but I feel I'd never actually use them which us a shame. Same with my A Frame. Sat in the parents garage collecting dust and probably rust. I should really install them one day.

Those wheels seem to fetch more money in the VW circles. Seem to be about average prices for LR, 150 to 250 depending on condition.

Definitely sell the roof bars separately, or take them off and offer them to buyer as "options" for extra notes. Only two pairs on eBay at moment. Otherwise I'm sure someone on here will pay £200 for them. (not me because I already have them fitted)

The kit will be the selling point. There are quite few 4.0 about lately but not clean eggsamples. You should get more for selling the spensive bits separate depends on how long the misses expects it gone.
Strip it out and sell the vehicle, you can sort the bits n bobs when she’s happy. If she doesn’t know you still got the bits you can put it towards your next project ;)

IMHO I would not consider spending all the time required to strip all the bits out and then make it look like they were never there. If I bought a car an found that all these bits were missing or werent working properly cos you had removed them them I would be SOOOOOO pi***** off

The car never came with roof rails and would be advertised as it came to me, none fitted.... The radio system will be left in place because it's a bit of a faff to remove and replace.

I plan to do the roof lining because that is a must. And it will only enhance the experience to the buyer to see an almost perfect car.

Swings n' roundabouts o_O

I got offered a p38 a few weeks ago also had a replacement engine out the crate roughly same mileage iirc
metallic red cream interior very nice motor had a gas conversion. Price was 2k belongs to someone I know.

Id leave all the bits on it & adjust the price accordingly. I bought a car years ago & a couple of days later
I seen some bits on ebay for it turned out it was off the motor id bought I was mad but I never got back to
him & bought them anyway. (reluctantly) lol

...Get a new Missus....

I am lucky with mine she loves the brand so whilst it is a bind, she puts up with the 'issues' and as long as I keep the costs manageable, she accepts beans on toast for a couple weeks at such times!

Lol,

Same, my late missus never moaned about if the landy was off the road or me working on it, plus always helped me if I needed a hand, bless her
