30' is 40 bricks...how many courses. On me phone and cant see the piccy very well
5-8 courses
wanted to rebuild a garden retaining wall about 30feet long (concrete with brick facing); as old one is falling apart.
Something older than MHM?

Actually that wall is only 15-20 years old. I believe the problem is because cheap "London" facing bricks were used 
Because it is only single skin it has absorbed water like a sponge and then frost has blown it all apart.
Not only that.... I is still working. I ain't retired yet. Not by a long way.

Facing bricks should not be used on garden walls, the water gets in, freezes n blows the face off.. The coping looks ok, so try n clean them up if pos, cos they cost a bit.. Use some decent stockies with a weather struck joint and it will look good n last well. I would do it for you but I am flat out now..

I would say the coping looks like its seen better days and that is probably a big contributory factor in why the bricks have blown. The coping looks like old clay cants. London (stock) bricks are not the best for garden walls.
I would use either a good clay 'best', concrete or an engineering brick.
I would also think about having a decent coping in either concrete like a saddle back or an engineering quality brick.

Copings are fine.
Its the brick that are crap.
Does no-one fancy a job?

do it yourself mhm,or knock it down,dig the footings etc etc.save on the labour costs.
