Hey Guys,

I'm looking at getting myself my first Landy:D . I'm told i could get a decent 200tdi for around £3000-3500?
I have no idea where to look or what is a good deal:confused: , any tips and advice would be great.

That sort of monet should get you a half decent one, if you are not sure what to look for, avoid off roady looking ones covered in spotlights, tree sliders, steering guards, lift kits etc. etc. go for one thats had mostly road use, and add whatever you want yourself, more enjoyable.
Have a good look at the chassis, and outriggers and rear crossmember.
Dont be afraid to poke around with a screwdriver, if its sound the owner shouldn't mind, will probably smoke on start up but should clear after that, have a good test drive, at least 5 miles, use all gears and check low ratio and diff locks. After test drive when you turn it off, try and restart it straight away. The list does go on, try and take someone with a bit of knowledge, and look at as many as you can.

A 200tdi at £3K is gona be far from perfect, but yes, definitly take somone who knows Land Rovers with you, you cant judge a Land Rover by how shiny it is.

Richard.

Thanks guys thats great. In royston, herts.
At the moment I'm just looking on ebay motors, autotrader and random searchs on the web...is there anywhere else you know I might have some luck taking a look at?

Go and see any landy you plan on buying.

Unless you can get really good photos and assurance that the chassis/bulkhead are in good order - oh and that it runs!

If you buy before you see, make certain that the chassis and bulkhead are in good order - along with the general running of the machine - tell the seller that if anything is not in order when you arrive you will not keep your side of the deal. This is fare, and will possibly make the seller think twice about telling you things are good if they are not.

Go to look at these landrovers with a torch and get a good look under it, tap the chassis with a metal implement and listen for rusty patches, check that outriggers are solid and that the bulkhead has no gaping holes in it or been patched.

Widget did a buyers guide a bit back, someone posted a link to it recently. Try doing a search.

its actually the same bloke. posted the same thing only 4days ago. what more do you need than common sense and Widget's great article?
