Nice job I have a replacement Bulkhead to weld up for my rebuild. not quite as bad as that. But a bit fiddly as the inner J profile on the vent openings have rotted in places. I'll refer to this thread when I'm sat thinking "why the Fook am I doing this"

its been in the workshop about 4 weeks, the night it came in it got needle gunned to find the extent of rot. initially we thought it might be a replacement bulkhead job, but decided there was enough reasonable stuff to try and repair it.
repairs started last Thursday on the motor, (panels prefab'd earlier, but all home made), but as its a spare time job, its been hit and miss over 4 days. (nowt done on it yesterday, got told I had to go out for me birthday :D )

Faaaantastic thread! Just about to do this although I opted for YRM panels instead of making my own.

From what you done I presume they have to be fully welded and I can't get away with plug welds? Did the welds not show through after painting or did you use filler?

Started a thread earlier but think this answers all my questions :)

This is what I'm facing

I considered yrm panels, but never got further than that. really must sample their stuff sometime.

welding wise, pretty much anywhere I could get a weld, I did. all new panels are seem welded, the only plug welding was building up the profile of the vent aperture.

once you get the outer skin off, your gonna be faced with a whole load of awkward reinforcing panels internally, and its these that'll cause your headache as there likely to be rusted thru or non existant!

no filler used, the surface welds have been ground flush, and the finish is just methylene blue to highlight any imperfections and offer a bit of protection prior to painting. (of which I'm not doing, as I don't do cosmetic paint, and sarah (who dave belongs to) wants to do it herself)

there's some more pictures to come, just aint got round to uploading them to photobucket yet.

best of luck with yours!

edit-
re yrm panels, all mine are fabricated from 16guage (1.6mm) which I *think* are slightly thicker than yrm's.

Thanks for the thread Neil!
