Hi there
If anyone has any idea re the below your input will be most welcome. Since shortly after buying my Disco TD5 auto last year (absolutely love it!) I've had the almost inevitable XYZ prob. As I had a few other priorities to pay for after buying I deferred getting it sorted and what a mistake that was as the switch then jumped up to £300+
Although the XYZ thing is more of an annoyance than a hinderance (clears with a restart but 3 point turns are a pain) I now want to have the auto box fluid and filter changed - will I need to sort the XYZ issue so that the gears can all be selected for the refilling routine i.e. to stop the box locking into 3rd?
Also would an XYZ switch from North America be compatible with my TD5 Disco as they only sold V8s there (which had a strengthened version of the ZF box but with same ratios i think)?
I read on searches about the battery issue and possible chafed wires but have no reason to suspect either as it can occur at the end of a long journey and its not intermittent or spontaneous - it specifically happens when going into R from P or D and occasionally when going from any forward gear straight to P. This makes me think it either needs adjusting (probably a long shot) cleaning/soaking with contact cleaner/WD40 (I would have to ask a garage if they would try as I cant get near the beggar due to lack of ramp/pit/tools) or sadly, and most likely, replacing for 300-odd quid
Would a diagnostic be able to tell the difference between a faulty switch and one that needs adjusting?
Any advice much appreciated
Many thanks, AJ
