Hi sierra still no joy brand new reciver fitted nothing changed I now have this fault I can’t seem to find any info on itHi, without blaming your friend i'd replace the receiver with a new one cos as long as the BCU is confirmed OK and the circuit continuity between the BCU and receiver as well i can't see other reason for the RF test to fail with a programmed and working fob
Hi I’ve just investigated further. I pulled fuse 21 out my old idm it was blown. I looked in my new idm fuse 21 blown. Replaced fuse, key signal detected 2 seconds later fuse blows again. Retested no key signal yet again. Now we are getting somewhere I’m guessing thanks for your helpHi. So from your posts i deduced that:
- the BCU is 100% OK, are you 100% sure ?
- fob is programmed and working, are you 100% sure ?
- receiver new,
- circuit between receiver and BCU checked OK, are you 100% sure ?
and the RF test is still failing ? .. if that's the case i can't find any explanation
that code is about an intermittent failure of the data link between BCU and IDM(interior fusebox) , was the fusebox ruled out ? it used to fail quite often due to water ingress
Yes I thought I had but I missed that one I’m not sure on electrical diagrams can you tell me location of c0101 thank youI didnt even imagine that you didnt check the fuses as you said you tried everything. That fuse feeds the BCU too. If you know to read a diagram go an that fuse's path, one suspect place can be C0101(see electrical library) which can get water... from where it ges to BBUS (if fitted)
Ok thank you I think this is job for a garage now at least I can say that the problem is on f21 thanks so much for your helpThe F21 circuit is pin 9(purple/black wire) unpin it and see if the fuse blows then... if the problem is not there a complex troubleshooting is needed which involves diagrams and know how to use them
Right I’ve done my best and found the fault the wiring loom that goes over the steering column had dropped and rubbed through around 7 wires causing a instant short when fuse 21 was plugged in. Whilst I was looking it nearly nearly caught fire. Pulled the damaged wires apart cut the damage out spliced and soldered new wire and heatshrunk new insulation over the new cable. Fixed the loom so it can’t drop again reprogrammed keys and hey presto we have it fixed. Thanks so much for everyone’s help. Remember check those looms over steering column. Not a nice job to do as access was rubbish.Ok thank you I think this is job for a garage now at least I can say that the problem is on f21 thanks so much for your help
So glad you found this fault.Issue fixed I hope my reply can help anyone else in my situation or symptoms I had maybe I was a little eager to blame bcu receiver etc but I got there in the end and I know that the parts I replaced getting to the end result would have ended up failing anyway especially the idm. So good result thanks everyone that helped
yes thanks mate It was a absolute vile job to do due to the access lucky enough I have 20 years experience in racing rc cars at a professional level so repairing wires like that is not such a issue. my colour blindness was playing havoc with me to a point I had to get misses to check the colures were matched right, orange with a red trace is not a easy one! . now I've just got to tidy it all up, re fit all the trims I've removed and try and get the insulation tape back round that plastic harness but we are fixedSo glad you found this fault.
Old skool problem, old skool remedy.
Yet so often there is a tendency to jump down the electronic system route.
Friggin diagnostics cannot tell us everything.
Well done mate!
Could you use spiral wrap, may be a bit easier and a bit more protection? Good job on finding the cause, by the way!and try and get the insulation tape back round that plastic harness
Hi it’s got to go round a right big lump of wire so I’ll try tape failing that I’ll give this a go thanks for the replyCould you use spiral wrap, may be a bit easier and a bit more protection? Good job on finding the cause, by the way!
