all landys get rusty (not to diss everyone elses!), mine isnt exactly the spring chicken it was in '88 i found this seemingly magical stuff called marine heavy duty rust treatment

Marine Heavy Duty Rust Cure Converter Treatment 1Litre | eBay

does anyone know if this sort of stuff works or its just snake oil lol

i found a few makes aside from this one but theyre all the same surely?

cheers to all the help from everyone recently too youve all been so helpful!:)

I haven't tried any convertors yet because i haven't started on mine but i know that dan_trials is restoring his and used a rust converter called Robex

I'd use one of the more tried & tested solutions rather than one from a seller calling himself 'supplyshed.biz'!

Corrosion Removal | Order Deox-C: A Powerful Rust Remover
Is a powder based product I've used and been very happy with. As is their Hydrate 80 product.

Have used Jelolite and Kurust previously and feel that the BH products outperform.

The below was only lightish surface rust from being storred outdoors, but 2 years later the remnants of that sheet still looks the same.

I've just been looking at the deox c, I've seen it in tractor magazines in the past and never paid much attention to it. Having looked at all the good things which have been said about it I've decided to order a tub and see how it goes.

I've used fertan rust converter before but I am unsure of the results as it begins to rust after a week after treatment so I'll see how the deox c goes.

Another suggestion I've found is to use molasses by leaving a component in it for a week. Think I'll give it a go this weekend and see how it looks next week seeing as we have several thousand gallons of the stuff it will be a cheap alternative if it works :)

afaik most use acid to convert rust. phosphoric into a stable phosphate or use tannic acid like kurust.

Straight acid works fine if you can get it to stay in place, or if you drop stuff into it. It can leech and will strip the zinc finishes from bolts and all that.

Kurust, vactan, robo, etc have a polymer additive and uses tannic acid. These usually look milky white

Jenolite / naval jelly is the acid in a gel form so you can apply it and have it stick for the 20 mins or so on the side or underside of things.

Obviously, any of them can obviously only convert surface rust. So you can wire brush it back, apply to convert any rust left then paint. Some people will also then wire the converted black phosphate back and repeat until it's all clean.

You can use different acids to remove the rust. Some dude recently used a big tank of molasses and water then after a while it became acidic and 'ate' the rust on the doors he dropped in. Just takes a while depending on the concentration.

btw, the phosphoric acid can break down and go orangey.

molasses is using phosphoric acid iirc.

If the gel works as well as deox c It will be ideal, this is a wheel hub which u left soaking for an hour, it was pretty grim when I first put it in

Just been talking to my lecturer and apparantly deox c is just oxalic acid which is about a third of the price of deox c. So i think ill be doing a comparative test to find out.
