cheers for all the replys!does this lil rascal of a clip have a proper name?is it true that it is a typical weak piece of a landy?me mechanic he said he'l reinforce it when he fits a new one. so it sounds like hes takin me for a lil ride when it comes to labour time!gr8!ah i'v gotta pay him to do it, pay i'm in cash and maybe he'l be nice enough to give us a lil discount!?!
so far hes fitted a new slave cylinder (as that was the first port of call for the initial clutch problemo), and with this work on gettin at and replacing this buggering clip, when hes in and around the clutch hes gonna have a gander to see if it is worn, if it is i was thinkin he may as well replace it while hes down there (instead of havin the cost of labour and parts to do the job 6 months down't line for its mot). is this a good money savin idea?
guesses please for the total cost of a new slave cylinder, new clippy do thingy (so thats 10p parts plus labour)and possibly a new clutch (if worn). how much should this all reasonably set me back?
i'm puttin the best part of £700 aside !yikes! also wats a reasonable hourly rate for a mech to work on a landy jus outa interest?any opinion and correct estimates will win a cool beer to bring in this early summer we're all enjoyin

Ant a clue wot it'll cost. How many miles has it done cos if it's done loads an he's taking it apart you might as well have a new clutch arm as well, in fact if it's done loads I'd think about getting it all changed regardless of wot it looks like.

The clip he's on about is a little lump of plastic that holds the clutch push rod into the clutch operating arm. If the rod comes out of the arm (an this is can happen if someone is a bit rough taking the slave cylinder off)

Does it sound like this '10 hours to do a 5 hour job' mechanic caused the 10p clip to come off in the first place?

Sounds like its worth 'discussing' with him how the clip came off in the first place..

i'm not sure if the grease monkey (is that offensive) broke the clip or what. would the guy even admit it if he had?and is there anyway of provin that he did/didnt in either case!jus gotta trust him i guess. its th same fellas who sorted me landy when I bought it, replaced free of charge when the UJ went so........
I got a price,
£819 for the labour, new 'reinforced' clippity clip, new slave cylinder, full service with a new gasket (ha a lil oil drip).
sounds and feels like a hella lota cash. thats a month and a halfs wages.
