Hi Guys,

Well been a little while since I was here (alternator in the summer while away in France). Well over the half term whilst in Dorset with the kids the antivibration part (rubber bit I guess) parted company between the metal parts of the crankshaft pulley. No auxillary belt drive, thankfully managed to pull over pretty sharpsish before the temp crept up as had no power steering and the battery light was on.

Towed to the ferry and managed to limp on and off before the temp exceeded normal or the bettery went flat from stop starting in the que.

Anyway, I was after parts recommendations? And advice on whether to chnage the frant oil seal at the same time, although no sigh of oil leaking, but some from higher up, cam shaft seal? Not much though only an oily engine with nothing on the ground.

Also will have a difficult time convincing wife the car is ok to go away in, any other jobs I should be looking at?

Suspension 5yrs old,
rear diff changed,
Gearbox and clutch changed,
Water works all changed 5 yrs ago,
alternator (as above).

Jobs on my list:
Front discs,
Oil cooler pipes (one just a little oily)
Starter motor (lot of stop start on Jersey)
Brake pipes (rear)
Pump in fuel tank or to carry a spare in line fuel pump when a long way from home such as:

Should add car is a 1995 diesel, manual and now on 162000 miles
Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions.

The harmonic balance unbolts from the crank pulley, six bolts, there is no need to remove crank pulley. Which needs special tools to undo and torque up.

At that mileage if it hasn't already been done I'd be checking (although not necessarily replacing):

In tank pimp
FIP
Timing chains
Hub joints
Suspension bushes on radius arms etc.
Wheel bearings might be wearing a bit.
Steering box might be wearing a bit.

Thanks Grrrrrr, will look at those over the winter, certainly have a bit of play in the steering box, wheel bearings are quiet and hopefully not something for catastrophic holiday spoiling failure! In tank pump worries me, along with timing chain and the engine has an idle speed tinkling sound but now wondering if that was the harmonic balance unit. Will find out when I replace it I guess. FIP pump sounds worrying to but do have a hot start fitted and have been wondering about getting rid of that and having ago at adjusting the FIP timing, bit scary that but did change the FIP on a 4cy merc desiel at the start of the year (om636). Only fitted and unfitted it 3 times until it worked............. Will look in to what is needed to check it.

Thanks.

Only sign of the wheel bearings going is the TC light mysteriously coming on until they get really bad.
