I'm looking to buy a 1998 Range Rover P38 4.0SE Auto.

I've just been to view one today and it's a very nice motor indeed :) Done only 69000 miles, service history, wads of receipts for parts & repairs etc, and the price is very good!

Couple of questions really...
What should I look for? other than the usual car checks are there any common problems with the P38 that might not seem obvious during the first test drive?
The seller has just recently had the air compressor for the suspension replaced, is this common? He also needs to re-gas the aircon, could there be a leak?

Also it's got the Harman Kardon audio system built in, is it really any good? I know that Harman Kardon manufacture some high end audio Hi-Fi's but never really heard of them in the ICE side of audio!?
Also it's NOT got a CD Changer in the boot!?  ...does anyone know where I can get one from and how much they'll cost ...and are they simply plug & play when I'm lucky enough to get my hands on one of course!

...oh poo, that more than a couple of questions isn't it? ...erm, ooops! :D

Thanks in advance for anyone who's managed not to fall asleep after reading all my twoddle!

P38 prone to electrical problems usually bad connections, so test that all the bits work properly as they should. air Compressors do go on average every 100.000 miles as do air springs. It is how ever a Range Rover one of the best luxury cars available, that can go off road anyway, so can be a bit expensive to maintain.
Harmon Kardon is indeed a good system infact one of the best, however there are interface issues if you want to install a standard replacement radio head. However there are ways around this.

Hmm, I might have to consider changing the HU if I can't get my hands on a RR CD Changer! :( Thanks for the info... I'm might look into that now.

I told you Jester....................get a deepender
pigpen, you're such a stalker!

No idea I'm afraid. I have only been a Range Rover owner for a week and I won't be able to look at mine until the end of the week. Why don't you start a new thread entitled "Is this the right CD changer for a H-K P38"

Me also. I've been looking for a magazine for one of these things and have gathered that people are coming unstuck buying Clarion stuff when it's Alpine they want. That's sharing what little I've found out up to now. Best of luck. If you've got the bass bin above where you're fitting your changer you'll not be disappointed with your sounds. regards P.S

Sorry abou this. God knows what I've done. I tried starting a new thread about my rear nearside door not lighting up the interior lamps and this ol' thread has appeared. Can someone of importance put some tippex on, please?
