Dear All,
I managed to get the sump off yesterday as it was the first decent weekend weather-wise! I witnessed what can only be described as a triumph of mechanical engineering..... the oil pump bolt protruding 5mm from the sprocket and waggling around quite happily with no screw thread
Thankfully the pump sprocket was in perfect condition with no wear to the keyway or either faces - so I replaced the bolt with a new one I bought a few weeks back, fitted a new sump gasket, put sealant on the relevant faces on the sump and replaced the front camshaft gasket.
The engine fired up first time and runs perfectly apart from my musical turbo but I managed to order a recon turbo off eBay yesterday and already have all the gaskets. I've slackened all the turbo bolts whilst I was under the car using a breaker bar and long extension to save myself the hassle later....
I decided to treat the Disco to an engine clean to get all the grease and grime off the block, sump and transmission to easily check for leaks. Then smothered lashings of anti-corrosion under-seal along the chassis rails.... mmmmm gloopy....
I've re-checked for any fault codes and the only fault I have now is the front-right ABS sensor which I already knew about but no more injector errors thanks to the new loom.
I can honestly say I have dodged a really expensive bullet so I've ordered a new ABS sensor and am feeling suitably smug
I can't thank you enough for all your help and advice.
Yours,
Andy
