It is the oxygen dissolved in the water that causes corrosion. Have you got a dehumidifier? Save the water from that and use it for your antifreeze mix. That is why you use distilled water in batteries, so the oxygenated water does not corrode the plates.
to be fair though you find very little effects in engines that have had coolant serviced throughout ,only in engines that have had long periods on just water

Looks like the best option is distilled and de-ionised water mixed 50-50 with ethylene glycol then.

It would have been interesting to try the "waterless coolant", but at that price, I'll give it a miss.

Anyway, I quite like watching Ed China & Mike Brewer, wonder if they have it in their cars?

Read an article by some cock on a jag forum, he only used pure h20/coolant in his.

Taking things a bit far like JM says if it has a good mix of coolant and water that should be enough

True James but the trick word is serviced. How many are serviced properly. Using deionised/distilled water WILL cut down corrosion along with the inhibitors in the antifreeze. You can't complain about cost even rip off Halfrauds sell it for £3.99 a gallon. If you have a dehumidifier and a tub to store it in, it's free. I put this forwards as an alternative to rip off waterless stuff. The advice is there nobody has to take it. :):)

Maybe, but they can bloody afford it. I think you might find it's got more to do with sponsorship. :D

Amazing on how cheap people are on buying coolant. 30 quid to keep a expensive car running even a 3-4k one.
Bet they **** out 30 quid of booze a night with out blinking a eye. and cry like a baby about the price of coolant

A flush out and change once a year is going to be about £30.00 at most. 57p a week. Check and changing suspect hoses at same time. Will keep the motor running. Yet how many actually check the coolant level once a week. Not many. How many just sit fat dumb and happy till something breaks? A bloody lot is the answer to that one. :D:D

Yep and same for checking oil and only changing every 2 years as they drive 3k a year. Or I am on holiday and towing a caravan and have a hgf never had a problem before. Them what ever motors are not worth ****

I check mine hourly do you think I'm paranoid ;)
I'm with that just before the hot weather , that was a tip .
And as jm says regular changes of tap water combined with antifreeze should more than suffice .
Leave it let it build up with silt then over time the overheating problems start as we hear almost well infact regularly

Yes true but that is not the point. Someone asked about waterless coolant. I merely suggest that Distilled/Deionised water that is a lot cheaper and in certain circumstances free and will do almost the same thing as regards to internal corrosion. Tap water whilst acceptable is full of ****e. Minerals, chemicals, lime in hard water areas and is Oxygenated. So distilled water is a lot better for your cooling system in the long run as it contains none of the aforementioned. I personally use tap water. I was just comparing what you can do for £25.00 to what they were proposing for £142.00. Does that make sense, i think so?

5 years worth at £25 , it makes sence :)
