I'm in a 'damn and blast' situation here. I have just taken delivery of a second had compressor to relace my inop one.
As the one I received had literally been cut out of its donor vehicle it still had all of the pipework attached and whilst removing the air inlet pipe I've broken the clip that locks the pipe into the valve (the one you have to push in to remove the pipe). Don't ask how I managed this, but lets just say it was down to none too clear instructions.

Now, before I weep, is there anyway of either:

a. Removing the entire union fitting and replacing it with the one currently on my disco, or....

b. Removing the clip from my old unit and transferring it to the new one

Or should I just resign myself to the fact I'm going to have to get a new one :(
Need help on this asap I'm afraid.

Well, it looks as all might not be lost. The pipe retaining collar is largely intact with only one tooth missing so I can still use it to secure the air intake pipe and as that is not going to be acting under pressure it should remain quite solid.
If I do need to secure it better I can use Sugru.

Well good luck with that, but what is Sugru?

Sugru is awesome: About sugru - the future needs fixing - sugru

From their site:

It moulds like play-dough, bonds to almost anything and turns into a strong, flexible silicone rubber overnight.

Developed by a team of product designers and material scientists, sugru's patented technology is unique in its combination of hand-formability, self-adhesion and flexibility when cured. It feels like modelling clay, and it's that easy to use too. Once cured, its durable properties mean it's comfortable in extreme environments from the dishwasher to the ocean in Antarctica.

Basically, even if the inlet pipe is a little loose this will provide a decent flexable seal on the outside of the compressor which is weatherproof.
I've used it on electrical items quite a bit and it can be a life/product-saver.

Well, the new pump works fine, unfortunately only the left had rear bag is inflating so it looks like I'm off to buy 2 new suspension airbags this morning.
One Landrover specialist I haf talked to suspected the rear right bag had the valve blocked which was trapping the reamining air in there (which also blew the old compressor)
Fingers crossed this is that last thing I shall need to be forking out for regarding the rear suspension for a while :)

And the saga continues.
New airbags fitted but the right hand one does not inflate. It turns out that whilst there is plenty of pressure being fed to the left hand when I unscrewed the pipe from the right hand air supply valve there was no pressure in there at all. It's not the pipe into the airbag not being fotted correctly either, I checked that.
I suspect my fleabay aquired compressors valves may be goosed so I'll swap them for the ones off my old compresor tomorrow, see if that works.
It was reassuring to see the left hand side going up and down so quickly, but with the left not inflating the right simply tries to match it for hight unless being fooled by the use of jacks and axel stands.

swap the electric plugs on the air supply valves to rule out a management issue first... but if this way the other side will inflate leave the valve block alone cos it means the ECU doesnt send signal to that valve that's why it doesnt open, it's more likely than blocked valve... which means almost certainly that the sensor is gone... a tester would be good to make circuit tests

Thanks for the help everyone.
Just to let you know, all is good now. New bags and compressor working fine.
Turned out one set of 'how to' instructions on the net were not as good as another, and it didn't help that my drive is on a slight slope and leans which made getting both wheel stations level a nightmare which is why one side wouldn't inflate. All is good now :)
I've gained an extra 3 inches gap between the top of the wheel and wheel arch and the off-road mode actually works now.
I've got a compressor refurb kit to fit next weekend, but that is a minor job compared to what I've been through with this.
I've no doubt that should I ever need to do this again it'll take a fraction of the time.
