Hi any advice would be great full my 2001 p38 derv is playing up again and everything seem to be a common fault , when I press the brake the light on the dash flashes on not the abs light and now and then the peddle goes solid ? Abs pump or pressure valve l thought tia

Its a black dome thing on top of the pump assembly.

To replace you MUST depressurise the brake system using the procedure in RAVE to the letter before removal.

Then either the Accumulator is seriously fecked or the pump is making no pressure or both....

Replace with a new Accumulator and make sure the pump comes up to pressure in the required time and that it will only activate the pump on every 5-6 pedal pushes at least.

mine pressurises every second push on the pedal.:(
when it does need changing, soon I think. Are we talking a full system bleed or is it sealed from air when changing? Maybe a daft question but thankfully ive not been there yet?

I'd do a really thorough brake-bleed as per RAVE first. Take your time and flush through a good 5 litres of fluid.

The accumulator is the simplest job you'll ever do. Pump brake 30 times, open bonnet, pump brake another 20 times. Get a strap wrench on the ball and unscrew, transfer a wipe of fluid to the new join and screw back up.

Minor amendment to the above........with the engine and ignition switched OFF.

No need to bleed.

phew, ive already bled it out completely following the book, more nipples than a strip club!

yes ive changed the fluid as you never know when it was last done!! It's amazing how people dont know about it?? I do think the accumulator is on its way out as the brakes are neck braking'ly brilliant!!
