I want to re-illuminate my fascia switch bank as some of the symbols on the switches don't seem to illuminate. The colours (green or orange when the switch is turned on) are fine but how is the symbol on each switch illuminated? e.g. fog lamps. Is it part of the switch itself or is there a bulb inside the switch or alongside it. Same question for the HEVAC. I have looked at Microcat but it is not clear. Any ideas?

Just had a look in Microcat. I can confirm that the switches have replacable bulbs as seen in the diagram. Same for the HEVAC as I've replaced these myself. Diagram shows 3 bulb types in the HEVAC unit:
Item 4, bulb and holder (Black) PN STC3868
Item 3, bulb and holder (Green) PN STC3869
Item 7, bulb wedge 1.2 watt PN RTC3635

Hope this helps.

This is an interesting project. Maybe a pictorial "how-to" when you do it? And pls let us know where you got all your bulbs from. Cheers! :)

What I did in the switches was replace the standard bulbs with coloured ones from Maplins. Now my cruise control lights up green and my fog lights illuminate blue. I also replaced the leds in the height switch with different colours. Now I know what's going on out of the corner of my eye.

O.K. It doesn't look too shabby either.

Mind you I've also got white dials with separately illuminated needles and dials.

does anyone know which bulb the one behind the fan control is? mine has been blown for a while but trying to find the correct one is turning out to be a pain in the ass. i think its the capless type?

great thread lads very helpful, been wondering myself on journeys staring at the panel how to replace the bulbs.

I followed the instructions from rangerover.net. The HVAC bulbs i got from a local car spares place and the switch bulbs came from the local main dealer. I had my dash apart and took the bulbs as patterns. The bulbs are also avalible online. When you have the switch panel out give the small fan, near the clock, a clean mine was full of fluff.

Anyone know how many and what type are in the HVAC?
I want to replace all of them at the same time.

The landrovers.net article is very helpful, particularly in describing how to take the centre console out to start with. The 'wedge' bulb for the Auto button on the HEVAC (and cigarette lighter) is part no.RTC3635. The other white bulbs in the HEVAC are STC3868 which also does the clock.

I still haven't worked out how to get white light into my fog lamp and cruise control switch though.

Get the switches out and if you're going to take the HEVAC out it's only a few more screws to remove the switch panel. On the side of each switch you'll find two small, circular coloured panels with slots. These are the bulb holders and the colour indicates the colour of the bulb. Rotate these anti-clockwise a quarter turn and pop them out. If you buy official replacements they'll probably come complete with the plastic mounts so you just reverse the procedure. Or if you can buy bare wire 12v micro bulbs you could re-use the plastic mounts.
