I'm having issues with my P38 EAS and thinking about a coil conversion kit

I've found several kits, some include shock absorbers (terrafirma) and some not (britpart)

Should I be buying a kit with shocks as well as springs?

Any advice would be great.

What EAS issues are you having? It's just my thought that with the price of the kits anyway you could probably sort out the eas issues for the money or less. Having driven a p38 with the spring conversion it's no fun.

Though to answer your actual question it depends assuming the kit is set for the standard height and not a lift kit type jobby then if your shocks are in good condition there wouldn't really be any need to swap but if the shocks are a bit worse for wear then it would make sense to get all new shocks and do them at the same time.

Also from what I hear the Terrafirma shocks give a very very hard ride, probably what you want for off roading but day to day would really get on your nerves.

Indeed, while I haven't had to change an airbag yet from what i've saw on the youtube it seems really simple a very quick to do in the grand scheme of things. I've never liked the idea of compressing a spring.

Plus airbags are cheap for what they are. valve blocks the o rings are cheap enough to replace aswell though a little on the fiddly side, compressor can easily be repaired cheaply from what I understand about the only thing that really needs a straight up replacement would be something like the driver pack.

The EAS faults range from air pressure valves and more recently the issue is something along the lines of pressure constantly low. In not with my laptop so can't remember the text.

Car won't rise at all now despite clearing the faults. Rides really hard.

If it's slow to rise then probably you need to rebuild the pump, it's not hard.
Check for leaks too, with soapy water.
I've done the rear bags, it's very easy

I once converted a disco to coils only as it was costing over the value of it to put right, drove ok until you hard cornered
of hit rough roads pot holes, sunken drains ect then it was very thumpy & rolled about like a boat. Sold it not long after.
If your keeping the motor id deffo fix the bag issues. :)

Take the feed off the pump put your finger over the outlet and run pump. I fit doesn't blow it off the pump is U/S
See technical section for wammers eas check

It's not rising at all, trys but eventually the EAS Fault flashes up and Slow 55kph appears.

I guess the pump is US

Have a read through the late Wammers thread in the tech archive it should help

Ok, following the EAS Guide you have all linked me to, I have discovered that the compressor is not blowing out much air.

I can certainly stop the air with my finger.

I've ordered a replacement compressor as the time it's going to take for the repair kit to get to the Republic of Ireland is two weeks whereas the new compressor will be here on Tuesday! I'm hoping to take the RR on holiday the following week.

Hopefully that will resolve the issues and there'll be no more talk of coils!!

Anything else I should be thinking about.

Still worth check out for leaks on the airbags and line, usually the compressor gets overworked due to leaks and that’s why the compressor then fails.

I'll do the soapy water test when I fit the new one next week.

I've certainly had one airbag replaced during a service so I guess it won't hurt to have them replaced. Any recommendations as to what bags to go for?
