All of the nuts are tight mate and the lower tie rod is ok as got a polyurethane bush down there, but I would have thought that wouldn’t create the black smoke when the clicking sound comes

They are related mate it’s mad I can finish work and drive the car for half an hour to my sons school, switch off engine for about 15 to 20 min, pick son up and get in motor start it up,pull off and hey presto a clicking ticking noise from the engine bay and then and only then bellows of smoke out the rear exhaust when I accelerate hardish,if I pull away normal everything’s fine, accelerate a bit hardish and the same clicking or ticking and smoke,I can now drive at low acceleration for a couple of miles and it clears itself and drives normal again :/ it’s a real head scratcher as never experienced anything like this ever :(

I am prepared to buy it off you for £200 ;)

Mine clicked when the crankshaft failed, no smoke, but obviously it could shift the timing.
Worth putting a socket on the crank pulley and rocking it to see if the crank is still joined up ok!!
Just a thought......

Lmao madmustang that’s kind of you seeing as I could get £650 scrap at breakers lol and it’s worth more in spares, thanks andyfreelandy if I rock the crankshaft pulley what is it would I be looking for, thanks for your input, regards

Feel by rocking the pulley nut for free 'play'. So, is the entire engine turning or is there some slack or loose spots. If you can observe the flywheel through the grommet at the gearbox end, what you do one end should be the same at the other !

Alright fellas just an update on my smoking and clicking td4,it turns out that it was a sticky injector, usually put a touch of 2 stroke in with the diesel and occasionally some millers but hadn’t for a while, well I gave it 100ml of millers in half a tank and when got pretty low filled up with a tank of bp supreme diesel and it’s running fantastic again now at all times,so thanks for all ideas and info from you lot, cheers
