Do'er of stuff and the like
well my new ultrasonic cleaner was left on my desk , (its always fun arriving to the office to find new tools!)

Want to clean my injectors - god knows the poor people who were behind me whilst laning want me too!

What solvent should i use do you reckon? Acetone?
 
Just done mine with a dunk in a jam jar of thinners. Quick rub over with the wife's tooth brush and they came up like new.
I'll have to throw the brush away now coz it might melt my trainer soles when I have to get the dog poo out of the fine bits.
 
im going to strip em down and do each one induvidually (so i dont mix up any of the bits) as i wanted to give them a really good clean :)

i hadnt thought of good ol' thinners

Glad I'm not the only one that does that :D
 
not sure you should strip them. i know you'll keep all the bits and shims together but when you put them back together they might not be set right anymore (wear/movement?) and you need a machine to test.

When I do them I strip and clean in Techron - a fuel injector cleaner sold here in the States by Chevron for adding to gasoline to clean fuel injectors.

Gets the crud off them quickly and doesn't smell too hellishly bad. After that I reassemble and set the pop pressure (I have a machine to do it).

Not sure I'd put acetone or anything with a low flashpoint in an ultrasonic cleaner where it coud get easily atomized to the open air. I clean the bits of an injector in a chemical-safe plastic jar with a screw-top lid - this gets the injector cleaner and then gets capped and put in a water bath in the ultrasonic cleaner.

If you decide to use acetone in your ultrasonic cleaner, can you please video it for youtube entertainment?

Oh, and you'll probably want to keep a fire extinguisher to hand, and some antiseptic dressings...

yeah i was going to put it in a sealed container and have that in the waterbath. Its not exactly eco friendly to be using LOADS of nasty chemicals :)

I may well buy new nozzles afterward

as for low flashpoint - its about -20 degrees c! haha

Whilst it will clean them better, they will need re calibrating.

purlease, :rolleyes: ive made some pretty dangerous chemical concocktions in my time. A bit o' acetone never killed no one :D
 
as for the machine, i presume you mean to test the pop pressure?

Ill just order one. :lol:

I've heard of people using jam jars of acetone with the lids on, and sticking that in the ultrasonic bath, which sounds like it would work.

Personally I'd be inclined to just soak them in the acetone overnight, then give a blast in the ultrasonic cleaner with some standard degreasing compound.

ill give that a go first if only to save a bit of acetone ;)

Setting the pop pressures looks pretty easy :eek:
 
Can you not just fire it at a newspaper?

Worked for my Relum Tornado in the 70s

Don't use your own toothbrush for removing ****e. It can leave stains when cleaning the chequering on your side by side.
