Hi to all Range Rover lover's. has anyone got an '87 EFI classic, I know there rare but so far I've only
seen one in 2 year's. Any how, i've got a big problem guy's, I cant get the water pump pulley & 11 blade
fan off, Rads out being re-cored but no way to get the inertia fan off.

Yep I got one, well 2 to be fair but one is a parts car.

Which way are you turning to undo, it's a reverse thread.

The can be a bugger to get off mind.

Well I tried both ways, wd 40 overnight, monkey wrench & a hammer, the main problem is that the water pump pulley
has only got the belt's to stop it moving, even put heat on it , but nothing, but it's only a bit of steel, right.
My '87 isn't normal. ex SAS, used for 3 years as a chase & capture motor, so its running a full high compression
lump. very quick & economical with 4 speed auto Z box & overdrive built in. Many unusual bits on her !
Did you know only 106 were built.

Your not using a big enough hammer.;)

I had the same issue.. I have the Laser tools 5591 bar for holding the pulley... undo one if the pull bolts insert it through the hole at the end of the pulley holder do it up finger tight, get the viscous fan spanner give it a thump clockwise when looking into the engine bay and it will spin off

Many thanks for that adam, as pete1987 says , its a very tough job if seized, hope mine's not, now where do I buy the tools. ?

You can use Adams tool or wedge a good flat bladed screwdriver on he pully, that works but if it's real tight a grinder will help get an edge on the screwdriver again.

My guess is that as your classic ownership extends in time duration you will also acquire big hammers.

I have a 3lb ball and pain (if you miss) which is most useful.

A good impact hammer is also good or one of them batter powered one just like I ave

Pulley holding tool item number 361932647562 off the Bay and loads of spanners if you type in viscous fan spanner in the search box. You could always make the holding tool from a piece of flat bar suitably drilled and ground. Ps, plus gas or a proprietary penetrating oil is better than WD40.;)

I have a '87 Vouge which has the high comp. (9.35:1) engine, the same ZF & no I didn't know the numbers built. If it was originally used for that purpose I'm surprised at the choice of transmission as a manual would have been quicker & more controllable. What are the 'unusual bits' & is the car fitted with anti-roll bars I wonder because LR did not perfect their own set-up until the early 'nineties but sometimes used a Harvey-Bailey system in the interim Sorry I can't add to the 'fan debate as I'm happy for my indie to do the swearing. As far as I know the eleven blade was introduced with the efi version of the 3.5 in Oct '85.

Auto correct changed it from Laser to LSE

. Google Laser Tools 5591 and you'll see it

The silverline viscous spanner is also useful 32mm and 36mm on the other
