My Disco 2 TD5 makes a chirping/squealing sound for about 1-2 seconds as soon as it's started and when it's switched off (just before the engine dies/stops) Sounds like the serpentine belt but I've tried dusting it with a bit of talc to see if it changed the noise but it didn't.

The belt doesn't slip when it's running, even with all the auxiliary's on eg air con & electrical loads.

Any ideas ?

Thx

OK thanks, sounds like that could be it... just chirps as the engine is about to stop. Anyone know how "critical" this is ? I'm normally spot on getting stuff done, but I'm moving house in two weeks and all my stuff is packed away, so I could do with leaving it for a while. It doesn't sound too bad and makes no noise when its running. Also when I changed the belt in September I did feel all the pulleys and there wasn't any slop in the damper, so I'm guessing it'll go for a while yet ?

Thx

I'd replace the drive belt with Genuine LR(not OEM, nor else) first cos you'll need to replace it anyway and eventually the tensioner cos that was the problem on mine with the same symptom
Came across this a while ago. No affiliation to them.

Not sure if anyone has fitted one from on here. But maybe worth a little more research.
I strongly recommend to not fit such thing on your engine... if you want research google out what a torsional vibration damper does(that's what the crank pulley is) , e.g. https://www.google.ro/url?sa=t&rct=...oke4LLfI94IiOcFhQ&sig2=y8a1vFrdxy8DOXzCjST0Sg
IMO shame on those who are selling this kind of "engineering", there's no engineering in replicating a vibration damper from a piece of steel on the lathe(they should have made it from PTFE at least it was lighter).. you'll seriously shorten the life of the engine and gearbox with such thing
