I know how to do that but...
I should of done it before I stripped down my hubs and brakes etc.
I'll be dropping the tank to do the brake pipes in a few days hopefully, now, is there a way to run the fuel pump before I drop the tank, without the abs pump starting up and causing me grief? Just jump the relay wammers mentions with ign off?

Put a live supply to the pin terminal I have circled straight from your battery, put a fuse in line just to be on the safe side

Fuel relay

Any old wire will do just cut bit off your misses favourite lamp or summat? It’s the pin goes other way to rest2B2ABF48-E99D-4412-87BA-97C5DC49E7A2.jpeg

180mils in 10 seconds from before filter is minimum. Any less lift pump is US. Replace with VDO type unit if you can.

Oh yeah...clip came out easily enough but the pipe is stuck fast so I'll remove the filter when I'm ready to test instead.
Yes I'll be a VDO pump although I might play around with an externally mounted facet pump if they flow enough, got a new one in me tratter spares drawer..

I use a toggle switch wired to two male spade terminals. Simply remove relay & insert spades. Used it several times for Starter and Fuel Pump relays. In the starter case it was to turn the engine over for compression testing. In the fuel pump case, it was to drain the tank using the pump rather than dropping it half full !!

Also useful to run the EAS pump with engine off.

I've just done the test and have noticed stuff.
I can't get the in fuel pipe off so I've done the test with the filter removed.
Filter was completely emptyo_O
The fuel doesn't flow from the filter head for 3 to 4 seconds, just air gurglingo_O
If I time from energising the pump I get 190 ml in 10 secs but 3 to 4 seconds of that is air.
If I time from when the fuel starts I get 300ml in 10 seconds.
I've emptied the tank using the pump and got about 13 litres out.
Thoughts are, I have air ingress somewhere but this may be bacause I'm testing at the filter head rather than the feed pipe maybe?
The pump relay maybe duff, that's why the filter was empty?
To remind peeps- the engine stalled when put into drive and I did see air in the clear pipe between filter and fip.
Over the next few days I'll drop the tank and clean everything through, new filter, new leak off pipes including the long one from the filter head to the inlet manifold, fresh diesel too and see what's what after that.

Wonder if PO knew this and glued the connections in?
Atleast it’s getting power as few rip the connector off dropping tank by accident. You drop the tank enough to get your hand in there and disconnect electrics before dropping it fully.

Non vdo pumps will let fuel run back to tank when engine shut off. Could be that. Old fix was to put an nrv inline on the return but you shouldn’t ideally need it.
If it was split should have constant bubbles appearing in clear pipe not just on start up

Not much muck in the tank at all, no build up around the pump at all.
I've had a cursory look at the pump and can't see any makers id so might be a cheapy?

Leak off pipe leaking? As above, original pumps had an NRV but later ones didn't, possibly because later models pump while cranking.

I've cleaned the tank out this morning, just 'varnish' which wiped out easily.
Pump is a VDO, found it marked on the sender. Lots of rust scale on the rear chassis which I'm attacking with a grinder and a needle gun, it's absolutely solid though.
Probably be doing this for the rest of the day, I hate rust:mad:.
I want to remove the rear bumper for better access and to check out the steel core. I've found the two rusty tork bolts underneath, do I just remove them and it'll slide out ?o_O

Plus clips either side that sort of fold down. Cannot remember if you have to push down the rear one before you pull it back but probably wouldn't hurt.

Those nylon looking blocks you mean? I can see a lever type thing near them.

Yes, clear all the mud off and there's a metal clip that squeezes in and then rotates out of the way to allow the sides to slide back off the blocks. You'll see where the metal slides over.
