I know what you're saying, but in the back of my mind I can't help thinking that nothappy is maybe an innocent victim here. Its plain to me that its a LR 90, with bugger all 1965 parts, except the chassis number plate and identity which has been transferred. I doubt 'nothappy' did it, but the previous (possibly several transactions ago) did. So I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that she's an innocent victim in all this, and that her defensive attitude is a reaction to the nature of some of the posts here, rather than a sympton of guilt.
The vehicle, quite clearly, is dodgy. Whether it was done for tax avoidance reasons, or to disguise a stolen vehicle - I'd say tax avoidance. If you were to ring a vehicle, it would be best to use the identity of one as similar as possible, not 30 years apart! Even the average Joe Public would probably recognise it as not a 1965 land rover, given the large age gap; so a copper will have a pretty good idea and justification to stop it and sniff around etc.
The clearest evidence, unfortunately, is not accessible to us - to look at the location of the Defender chassis number to see if its present, therefore the vehicle has 2 different chassis numbers; or if its been ground off etc.
