Tyre pressure monitoring system.
May I suggest, without getting snotty comments from certain members, you pick up your dad's owner's manual and familiarise yourself with the vehicle. Familiarising yourself with a vehicle is something every owner ( or whoever is going to be attending to it) should do, as soon as they get it home.

Another not required complication to modern vehicle ownership. What was so difficult about checking TPs now and again. Next they will have a fart detector that winds a window down.

trouble is they are 14 and 21
They should do, that's the thing! And check oil level!!Problem is, most mere mortals seldom check their tyre pressure, so it's kind of a safety thing..
Don't want to be flying down the motorway with 5psi in the tyres

But they don't, and that's why these TPMS systems exist.
If it is anything like the BMW systems it'll work off of the ABS sensors.

Don't want to be flying down the motorway with 5psi in the tyres
It's car driver 101. Even for those incapable of checking oil and water , surely they check tyre pressure, at least once a week. I do the spare once a month because of the faff.
Oil, water, tyre pressures, should be up there with, 'do I have at least half a tank of fuel'.

Oil, water and TP checking should be part of the driving test.
