Please see the attached image found on this forum. Does this method apply to 2004 auto box?

Many thanks in advance.

I have reused the washer, but Mr Murphy and his law of sods will say "if you dont have a new 1 (even if you dont use it) it will leak .
Actual plug is fine.

Filling is not easy, many ways to do it.
Pipe and funnel to the engine bay, Garden sprayers (the pump up 1s) is common, or the big syringe thingy.

I would add, Has it been changed or do you know when it was last changed?
If not then its worth just changing the whole lot.

Ok I will buy a copper washer.

I know the previous owner changed the oil a couple of times within the last couple of years. The reason I want to check the oil level is I noticed some fluids around that area.

I should add I didnt see oils actually dripping rather droplets gathering. It was really hot weather 35° And I drove for about 4.5 hours. Maybe its residual oils from the engine working down. I need to clean down the engine to see more easily Whats occuring.

Many thanks

I used one of them big syringe type ones, think they hold 500ml or something.
Thats the way I think I will do it. Syringe with a clear plastic tube and fill until a 2mm bead is leaking out the filler hole.

Im assuming this is done from the underneath and I can access this filler hole with the car on level ground by getting underneath.

When I purchased this Disco it was not actually for sale, I approached the guy over the phone and within 30 mins of asking if i can buy it I was there looking at the car. The engine oil runs perfectly clear. He had no time to change the oil.

And after driving 1300 miles in the car the oil still runs clear.

So im hoping the gearbox oil is a similar story.

What previous owner said;

"I wouldn’t bother changing the oils I’ve done them all the gearbox has been flushed about four times had two new filters on it in 5000 miles transfer box the same this front and wear the same just give the engine and oil change and filter that’s it really thanks 👍

Yep, although I have got fatter and it sin't so easy now!!
I use the garden sprayer it is much easier, no refilling.

no to both.
I do it by feel, but then I have a calibrated elbow after years of practice (and stripping threads ).

Just nip it up.

Agree with this but I do tend to use a torque wrench if I am at all worried. They can be a sod to undo and as they are a star jobbie it is too easy to strip the hole, making next time you want to do it an absolute sod.
