Hi all
I have looked on the seach on here about tyres a great deal said but not a lot if you get my meaning. Has anybody put budget tyres on there Freelander td4 and how did they get on with them.
I use my TD4 for towing a caravan it does not go off roading as such. Its used on roads 95% of the time and level grass fields.
Could do with some real help here not just the silly comment I have found on the seach.:confused:
 
Don't know if it helps you or not but I have always stayed away from budget tyres, its the only part of your vehicle that connects with the road (or should be) in my opinion its not worth scrimping when it comes to safety.
I have also found that the more expensive tyres seem to last a lot longer so perhaps its false economy if you have to replace budgets twice as often.
As I said its only my opinion.
 
got to agree with biggeee - don't scrimp on tyres, the cheap ones never last.

The 15" and 16" are pretty cheap if I recall - or they are compared to the 17" ones i just bought.

Try one of the many online - ones ie etyres for instance if you don't want specialist offroad stuff.
 
I agree with bigeee and would like to add brakes are worth spending money on.If youve got grip and the ability to stop-the two go hand in hand, then youve got a safe journey.
 
Hi , mine had wrangler's on when I bought it , nice road tyre . Then I put Michelin's on , very good but have just put two General's on the back (all I could afford ) and they are awefull , sitting in the back you can hardly hear anyone talking in the front ! these still cost £145 for the pair .
 
We had budgets on our TD4 when we bought it & they were terrible, no matter how many times they were balanced they still shook.
Have fitted a set of Kumhos and its like a new car.

I did not think I could get a budget new tyre for the 17" ones on my TD4 but I got one this week for £60 + VAT fitted, looks a nice tyre and tread pattern, BUT its on the spare! So no idea of road noise etc?

I will take a few photos tomorrow so you can see for yourself.

The guy fits them to a taxi companys vehicles who where using Avons and they now demand the budgets as they do a lot more miles than the Avons for half the price :D

Kwik Fit currently have an offer on Dunlop 215/65/16 as low as £75 ea if you buy 4. These are fitted OE to the Nissan X Trail and RAV4.

Try Black Circles .com as well, they usually have a good choice of brands.

Definitely wouldnt scrimp on tyres. the extra 20-30% for a premium brands is always well spent, especially on a front biassed 4WD with a diesel engine.

I have 4 x Kumho's on the car I am picking up - never had a car running these before, are they any good?

I have HAnkooks fitted as OE on my company Renault Koleos and they are very very good, very quiet.
 
I'm run the Pirelli scorps too - excellent grip, noise and not too bad on wear. STR don't seem as good in mud as the old ST's I used to have however. Michellins will last longer but are more expensive.

£318 - that cheap - are the 17"? I got 4 x 17" for £415 last April which I thought was a bargin.
 
Pirelli must make better 4x4 tyres than standard car tyres then for wear. I used to wear them out for fun.......in a T5!!!
 
I can get 215-65-16 'Continental Premium Contact 2' tyres for £50 each if anyone is interested, my friend has his own tyres shop and has 20 of these sitting there when I was in on the weekend, if you want a bulk buy I can get even better prices. Located in tyne an wear area. Can be posted at extra cost. Fitting and balancing service also available.

Put four 195/80R15 MICHELIN 4X4 SYNCHRONE on my XeDi last year for £350. What a difference!! The rolling resistance was reduced yet it grips like s##t on a blanket. Plus I get 400 miles to the tank without trying.

Don't buy cheap tyres, its is false economy and boardering on dangerous.

For road use I have to agree , the Michelin's I had were great . I'm realy regretting not going for the same this time ! :mad:
 
Bloke at the tyre shop was slightly disappointed as he wouldn't be seeing me again for quite a while. Another advantage with the Mich, they last a long time. They are a good road tyre and with a 50/50 split tread pattern they can happily handle soft ground as well, so they're up to a bit of green laning. Of course true off roading requires a different breed of course....

They were 215 65 x 16's str' they are quiet I agree..
 
if you're fortunate enough to be a costco member, michelin lattitude 215/65/r16 are going for 98.88 fitted inc. vat. but buy a set of 4 and get 20% off. they can also get synchrones too, but limited availability.
 
Morning all, I have just being speaking to my mate who has the tyre shop and I told him that I'm a member on here and put a message up about the Continental Premium Contact 2 (215-65-16) tyres has has in stock, and he said if anyone off Landyzone wants any he'll do them for £40 each, all brand new and can be fitted if need be or can post out.

Someone has just offered me a set of new general grabber AT2 tyres for a silly price - One question folks - what speed rating should tyres on my freelander V6 have? The current tyres are H rated - and I note that the AT2 are T rated? Can I use T rated tyres without f****g up my insurance?
