I just thought i would let folks know of a ecu reader that works on the P38 petrol.
Had runing problems on my 1996 4.6 RR:doh:, i knew the fueling was not right so i contacted my local L/R specialist, who i highly recommend.
AMR Auto's, Grenhow Hill Farm, Pannierman Lane (Off A172), Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, TS9 6QF
Main Tel : 01642 724646, Parts Tel : 01642 724647
they are just outside Middlesbrough and are also an LPG specialist.
I took my car over to them and they put it on their diagnostic to check what was going on and cleared all fault codes then did an adaptive reset, all with me looking over his shoulder so i knew what had been done, and he showed me that the oxy sensors were not correct and the MAF sensor was not working.
He did say the LPG system (single point) was no doubt causing some of the problems.
He left it at that, no hard sell to replace lots of parts and charged £35!! which i thought was cheap.
Any how after looking for something to read the ecu, most sites were saying you need the proper kit which costs at least £300 up to 1000's.
I found some where, i can't remember if it was on here or another forum, that an ELM 327 CAR DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER SCANNER OBD2 TOOL will read the ecu and give live data.
i was a bit sceptic as with most of the cheap stuff as they are selling on ebay for £30.
But i thought £30, is cheaper than going back and forth to the garage and i can play and check thing at home, so i bought one off ebay and guess what ''IT WORKS''.
once set up with the software that came with it, it gives live time run stats of the engine from fuel trims, O2 sensor voltages and rich or lean, MAF flow rate and a load of other things, but the main thing is it communicates with the ecu, which alot of folk say the cheap ones don;t.
If any ne needs any more info of where i got mine from let me know, there are quiet a few people selling them, but from what i read go for one with LATEST ELM 327 Ver1.3A .
