So my 1984 Series 3 has a decent chassis but both axle strap mounts at the rear are rusted through and on the nearside, the are that this bracket welds to on the chassis rail. Does anyone make a repair panel for this area?

Its only mild steel sheet so most people simply cut out the affected area back to solid metal and weld a piece in.

How important are the axle straps? Before I stripped my Landy mine where no where to be seen and it never seemed to cause any problems, what would happen if they weren't fitted?

Theoretically to limit the suspension travel. Given the stiffness of leaf springs I'm not convinced they are effective or essential.
