Time for a change my Defender 90 TD5
Was planning to go for a 110 9 or 12 seater 5 door but the later TD5s seem eother to be horrendously expensive of shagged.
Has anyone any experience of changing to the HCDI. These seem to be pro rata cheaper than the TD5 but I've heard bad reports.
I've had my 90 for around 12 years and the engine is still sweet on 165k so I would like to stick with this engine but .............
Any advice is welcome

Honestly stick with the td5, absolute Peach of an engine, mine to is on 165k and has never skipped a beat, works hard to some days...proven to be one of the most reliable units landrover ever produced.

You bought your 03 TD5 (30K miles) in April 2011.
In 13 years i'm please that you say it now runs 'sweet' as back then it was an 'old Leyland bus'.

I presume since your original 3 posts posts in 2011 and your resurrection (single post) in Jan of this year (ref your indicators), you've fixed all the minor issues and elecytrical gremlins, maintained the bodywork and chassis, defeating the tin worm in the process your D90 is now in that 'horrendously expensive' category too ?

13 years of low cost motoring. Just need a 110 for extra capacity. Body/chassis still fair and sound after 13 years. Just repalced the braking system at a reasonable cost. Only the ****ty rear axle casing is the current downer.

Plenty of nice TD5's around for sensible money, you just need to move away from Ebay as prices on there seem high.

Try the Land Rover magazines and also a "wanted" advert on forums such as this one may come up with something.
